I've always loved blowers.
I've owned a few roots blown big block Chevies.
Anyone here familiar with supercharged Nortons?
I doubt I would add one to mine but, never-the-less, it's an interesting topic...

I do recall that there was at least one blower kit out there. IMHO Nortons would not be the best bike to add a blower to as I don't really think there is enough extra strength in the lower end to support supercharging.
I'm sure it's lots of fun though.

I called. They know nothing of it, traded on on a Jag. I think I'll bid but I won't get it. They were thinking $7 to $8000

How many extra horses is the Drouin good for? I guess you'd find out just how good those Superblends really are when the boost comes on...

Interesting.
It looks a little rough to me for $7-$8K...

Whew,

I bet you'd surprise a lot of folks before the big bang. There was an incomplete kit on Ebay a while back and I was momentarily tempted.

Do you recall what it went for or the last bid that had you tempted?

Was it this one?

I'm sorry I don't think I actually bid at all. That was just the major parts of the blower kit on Ebay I looked at. A blower kit is enough trouble to fit if you have all the parts, but if you have to develop it you'd better plan on a long haul. I decided to shop for a Honda Blackbird as more practical, but then the market fell and I've not been shopping for anything big ticket.

I remember when Drouin came out with those. The company was here in CT where I live. They had models for the Honda 750/4, Kaw Z1 and the Commando. Claims at the time were 90 hp. They work best with stock cams.

The fella who owned the company I worked for then was a mechanical engineer who had designed blowers for diesel engines in his past. He told me that a supercharger consumes half the power it creates. So if you get 30 extra hp from the engine it's actually making 60 hp and consuming the rest as heat. Then he started in on rod and crank stresses, and I went away saying "Not for me I guess..".

They typically fetch $1500-$2500 US on eBay depending on how complete and in what conditon it is.

I wonder with a modern 1 piece crank and new rods, etc. if it wouldn't be half worth it... if you HAD to have something different. :D

The supercharger would be a bit of a tip off, if you could hide a Nitrous bottle......
I have a couple friends with blowers on old Goldwings and one with nitrous, for a short blast they report similar performance. The difference is that Goldwings have a car sized lower end that is truly robust, they never really brought it to the end of its development.
The basic Norton twin was at the end of years of stretching, it's amazing what those old twins produce.
