OK, I need some help to overturn my natural scepticism. I am quite willing to be educated if I'm displaying wanton ignorance. I'm aware of the recommendation (e.g. Old Britt's) to blank off areas of the frame and gearbox cradle before powdercoating to avoid shearing mounting bolts and to provide adequate ground /earth. I have a hard time understanding how blanking these areas - and then painting them - can avoid the above complication or help with grounding (save, of course, from blanking internal threads).

I know of many people (yes, myself included) who have powdercoated frames of many different makes and models and who never sheared any mounting bolts and who have no problems with their electrics. Please illuminate (sic) me!

Paul.

Its same as anything else you've powder coated, coating can crush down or wear off to unclamp fasteners seating then shifting and vibration does what It may.
Often associated by report it was SS fasteners not the factory finish steel.
Paint is way thinner usually than plastic layer powder coat, as only thing I can think of in regard to your inquiry but its would only be for pictures before assembly as fastener clamp force would wipe it off to base metal under seats too.
Ground connection is obvious best by metal to metal nothing in between.
