My wyfe started out at age 15 on a Honda Trail 70 that her older brother left in the garage when he went to college. She found the shop manual. pulled the carb and cleaned it, and taught herself to shift with the clutch. She got a nice Yamaha RD350 right after we married, then upgraded to a Yamaha Seca 650, then downgraded to a Kawasaki 440 LTD, then upgraded to a 2002 Triumph Bonneville, till she allowed me to trade it off after I gave her my 2000 Triumph Legend 900 triple, which she still rides very regularly for errands, or to take the kids/grandkids for rides.

In reality, the new Bonneville is a PERFECT fit for almost ANY girl/woman. My wyfe is petite at 5'2" with a short inseam, and she sat ALMOST flat-footed on it. She sits SLIGHTLY knees-bent on the Legend, but it's a heavier bike, so there's a trade-off (the Bonnie actually went slightly faster at the top end).

The second HUGE benefit of the Bonnie is absolute all-around performance whether around town, in the twisties, long-hauling, 2-up, moderate off-road, bagger, bobber, track days, cruiser, WHATEVER. They really are ultimately easy to change modes with a couple hundred dollars of quick-swap parts.

I recently got my now teenage daughter a Honda MB5 which I intend to teach her to ride on, maybe this weekend!

"Rattle Can Restoration"

Perfect "learner" bike as it's relatively short, yet enough oomph to get to nominal highway speed...
