Bike Lift

Hi All,

I am looking for a bike lift for my Mk111, I have seen a few but wouldn't trust them strength and design-wise.

Can anyone tell me of a proven good-for-norton lift available?

I got a decent one from Sears on another forum member's suggestion (thanks again Debby!) and I've been quite happy with it. I think it was about $130 but you could probably do better by watching for a sale. - BrianK

I bought a nice one from Sears. It is the "professional grade" model and was a bit over 100 dollars. Seems quite solid.

I'll chime in for the Sears lift as well. Handy, sturdy and haven't found a bike yet it would not accomodate. Bonus- there's even a Sears in the small town I live near.

I like this one because of the outriggers that keep the whole thing stable if you remove a wheel.

The reality is that pretty much any lift will do, even the cheap ones. Nortons are not really very heavy as big bikes go.

I would second BrianK's advice about tiedowns.

I take it you are in Melbourne, Vic, Vince?
In that case it may be a bit hard to find a Sears but there's a crowd in Epping called VPW who handle a lift from the US by ACE that I've lusted after. If you go for a look let me know what you think and what they quote as there is no price on their web site.

I like the frame supports on your lift. Did you make them yourself or did they come with the lift? I use my Handylift and wooden roll up stand for long term projects, but these portable lifts make short "driveway" repairs and maintenance easier than crawling on the ground.

Those frame supports address my biggest problem. The pipes interfere with lift, and placing wood blocks between the frame and lift arms isn't very secure.

You have me thinking about taking a length of 4X4 and drilling a 1" hole down the center and then splitting it on the table saw. Screw in a couple studs in each length and drill several holes in the lift arms to take the studs and voila! A stable lift with frame supports! Not as elaborate or adjustable as yours, but workable!

They came with the lift. I bought it from a guy on ebay who specializes in lifts. Do an "Ebay Motors" search for "motorcycle atv lift", or contact me privately and I'll see if I can remember what his nom d'ebay is.

$30 at Pep Boys

I doubt this will help a guy Down Under, but maybe some others in USA.

Pep Boys currently has their "Big Red" brand of motorcycle jacks on sale for $29.95 after rebate. And unlike some other places, I have always gotten my rebates from Pep Boys.

I'm considering one of these, has anyone else used one and offer any comments?

That's the one I have. Great price! It seems to be built as well as any of the others. My only complaint is the aforementioned problem of needing blocks to lift the frame rails due to the exhaust pipes. A little ingenuity and you can fix this cheaply.

These are short term use lifts. I would not leave a bike on them for a long term rebuild.
