It's a change in life style. I've spent so much of my spare time in the past year working on this bike that I find it a bit depressing that it's over. I go into the garage and stare at the bike and realize their is nothing to do for now. It's a bit strange feeling. Riding the bike is absolutely fun, but I like the sense of accomplishment that came with the build almost as much. Wish I had 25k to build a race bike or another vintage restoration as cool as the Norton. I'm afraid I may be addicted. I'm already making a list of upgrade projects for next winter.

As purchased:

Serves you right, you freaking perfectionist. You left no room for improvement.

Red 72, doesn't get any better.

I'm still waiting for something to blow up. FYI it's a 71 with combat heads. The guy I bought the bike from had a this 71 and a 72 combat in pieces. He got some of the parts mixed up and I ended up with the heads to the combat. And I LIKE them. More pop

Looks real nice. If I had your skill and motivation I'd be done with mine...

Close enough for me. My bike has 3 different serial numbers.

Hobot advised me to enjoy the process, he was right. Where are you in the process snorton? got some update pics? me likes pics :D .

Yeah man can't beat the price of the therapy sessions here. If oil tight and using Norton issued fasteners you can try staying ahead of the rust for relief. If ya get too smug thinking ya can just be a TV ad mechanic maintain with just a wipe of a clean rag, you'll forget about major fasteners to check and then pay catch up in cascade of side effects.
My first pangs hit when I can't think of any more excuses not to start up after something major I fixed. If motorcycles were a main priority of my mechanical time attention they'd been done last decade. Ugh essentially were a few times last decade. My Swami Nitty Gritty said when people get caught up with all their projects they don't last as long.

Try revving it to 6,000rpm through the gears and putting at least 5,000 miles per year on the clock - that'll show up any faults that need ironing out and still give you a bit of routine maintenance in between rides.

I think you've got some kind of 'post traumatic stress disorder'...

I'm trying really hard to be sympathetic here Roadrash, honestly I am, but I'm struggling...

The sun is shining here and I'm still looking at a bloody big pile of bits and loads of work ahead of me before I can enjoy mine... You meanwhile have a stunningly beautiful bike to enjoy...

And you want us to feel sorry for you - It ain't happening mate!

Go and enjoy riding that lovely bike, it won't take long to cure that post traumatic stress !!

Ohh my heart bleeds.. You need to go ride the crap out of it and sort the bugs (cos there will be plenty and that will take up next season) or stuff it in the corner with a tarp over it and when you "croak it" the relatives will flogg it of for a cuppla K$"s at the local jumble sale.. Live for today and not what "ya gunna do"...

". Wish I had 25k to build a race bike or another vintage restoration as cool as the Norton. I'm afraid I may be addicted' You dont need 25K, you just need to start........... with a tank or frame or wheel or idea and eventually all will fall into place.... Money, there is plenty more where that come from as you know...

I see many nice bits there. She's going to be sweet. Think you'll have it on the road for the INOA rally in your state this July? Looks like you are getting close. Of course you'll have to spend some precious time cleaning the oil stains off your living room floor. My wife would never let me do that in the house. Yes, I am pussy whipped.

After some running around work wise, I've last of this nice day to get in mood to tear down Trixie and reseal her, then see what I run into fitting the upgrade graphited swing arm bushes in cradle with larger OD spindle, ugh, while waiting on mower parts. I've a fine working SV650 used well yesterday but its so unstable off hwy I'm too worn out for it today but if my Combat was ready it'd be inviting not to miss such a spring outing and holiday between stops. On various lists they say do a little of some thing every day or never get done.

I can do you a swap - I 'll cover the transport costs :!:
