My old hands don't work like they used to, find myself stretching them at every intersection, and the original style looked kinda goofy to me (and were too slippery), so in an effort to make the grips larger, I went to the dark side and ended up with tassles.
They were pretty easy to make, a $10 bag of remnants from Tandy, and one of the real 2 fer $5 laces (72" each) from the shoe shop. The first set I made (in the tool picture) had Kiwi laces which are a little skinny, and some 3 oz leather I had laying around, but they did not make much difference. The remnant bag had some 5 oz (2mm) pcs which i did use, but if I were gonna start again, I'd look for 3mm (7-8 oz) thick leather.
Used a cardpaper template, some scissors (not pictured) and cut a slot near one of the ends to keep them from unraveling.
On the downside (besides the sideways looks I predict), they add a few ounces.
