The depth of hardness of the crankpin journal was easy to see, and if this wasn’t up to spec. then the whole batch was sent back to the heat treatment works to be redone. But these engines being diesel run at 20:1 compression ratio.
And these engines no doubt run 1 million miles before overhaul.
