I am in need of rebuilding my commando's forks. I am replacing everything just short of the legs. I am curious who is the best vendor to get my parts from. I usually deal with britishcyclesupply and have good customer service and never had an issue with parts. Just trying to find out where the best place to get my fork parts from.

As Andover offers complete 1969/70 forks (I chose to buy one recently as my 1970 came with a Betor-Showa assy) I'd go that route. This way you can at least be somehow sure that the stuff is made as close to original spec as possible.

If you want forks that actually work properly look at Lansdowne, I have 2 850 s one with and one without, the difference is day & night, highly recommended and an east fit..................

Was looking for a good quality place to get my tubes, seals and bushings. I may just continue using my current supplier as they are easy to deal with and have no issues.

I have actually put an email into lansdowne for his dampers.

But arent his dampers just that. I still need the other bits to go along with his dampers correct? Maybe i am missing something.

No you need all the other bits too so if you are missing anything its the bits and not brain cells ;)

I get most of my parts from Old Britt's. I rebuilt my `73 850 forks with parts from them.
All authentic Andover Norton stuff. Stay away from pattern junk.

Agree!!! Go wit a vendor known to carry to quality parts AND provide phone/internet support. Stay away from a number of vendors who advertise on eBay. Old Brits, Fair Spares, Andover Norton and a couple of others will do you right. Fork tubes whose chrome peels off after 1000 miles is beyond annoying

I got my tubes ,springs and fork rebuild kit from Brit Cycle Supply and used the Lansdowne fork kit from JRB with very good results .... the Brit parts were all from Andover I think ... I had choice of 3 levels of quality and price from Brit Cycle and chose the best ... all went together nice and made big improvement

I have found a lot of new fork tubes that are supplied aftermarket do not have the correct OD and or have a decorative chrome finish and not the hard, ground chrome finish that is correct.

Thanks for the feed back I ended up with my usual supplier and I am putting an order in with the lansdowne dampers but being about 6 weeks out I want to get out and ride before this ohio weather turns winter. Already starting to drop so I will just have to use the regular dampers until I get the lansdowne.

for the best tubes... Forking by Frank in Evanston Illinois.

I've seen some fork tubes by Franks just like I mentioned to stay away from, but its been many years, so maybe they are better now?

I've bought tubes from them in the early 80's, early 90's and 4 years ago for my last three rebuilds (3 different bikes). All were perfect quality, to perfect spec and finish. I have visited their facility and dealt with them personally. Absolutely no problems with them or their products the last 3 + decades. They manufacture the tubes themselves, the machine tools are well maintained. This is all they do and specialize in.

I'll make a vote for RGM Motors, they have the bits that enable hydraulic lock at the top and bottom of the stroke. They have the longer bushings and damper bodies that have the higher oil holes. They also can provide you with springs and stanchions. I totally agree that the Lansdowne units are far superior, but may be overkill for your riding style?

I have used Forking by Frank for my BMW R90S and my last Commando custom and was very impressed with their quality, I did find them to be pricy for the commando, and very good value for the BMW.

Do consider that the benefit of any suspension maintenance/rebuild/upgrade is greatly diminished if your ISOs are worn and/or out adjustment.
