PRE MKIII ONLY!

Considering up-front cost, installation/cost, quality of product & instructions, effectiveness, durability, etc.

I set up a poll on fecebook, let's see if this one mirrors it, or produces a different clear leader...

you don’t have a “none” choice
Not so. If you've never bought one, or two, and/or installed one, etc, simply DO NOT VOTE (if you don't want to, or don't care to)

You can still vote for the one you'd buy if you were so inclined...

Hi,
I know the poll has the best intentions but I have to question it’s validity as almost every potential voter has only experienced one electric starter therefore are hardly in a position to compare it with others, good or bad.
I guess the question that we are trying to ask is how satisfied riders are with the one they have in terms of cost, ease of installation, suitability of purpose, reliability and unobtrusiveness. It is also of interest of how it compares with the original Mk3. I have heard that with a bit of fettling and a few aftermarket modifications they can be made almost effective, is this correct?
regards

Right, there is no way to do a "perfect" poll.

MANY people have been in the market, but haven't bought one yet. They can still vote, for the one they'd choose.

Plenty of people have read all the posts about others who HAVE installed one (or more) and can vote on the one they like.

I thought the same, ie I’ve only used one so how can I judge?

But I’ve read the many posts about the different options, and issues folk have had, etc.

I fitted the cNw kit. I think it’s good value when you look at the quality, and whats included (ie belt drive kit).

Mine is fitted to a full race 920 motor with 11:1 CR ratio. This engine is a swine to kick over, but the starter kit does so with ease.

I‘ve ridden the bike on many track days, revving to over 7,500 very regularly, engine braking hard, etc. and obviously a motor like this puts out a LOT more power than a stock motor. Yet the belt has taken it all, and never been adjusted.

So, I reckon that’s a pretty good test of both starter and drive kit, and both have proven flawless.

I therefore feel qualified to vote for the cNw kit !

I've been carefully studying the design of all offerings.
It's likely my knees will at some point stop feeling "ten feet tall & bulletproof" and e-start will allow me continue to enjoy my commando.
I have lots of experience with mechanical drives & their design, design shortcomings, compromises & robustness.
I need not buy one to have an opinion. (I'm choosing not to vote.)

It's an awkward one,I can't really see this pole working
You really need people to vote that have used all of the starters
I've only ever fitted an Alton on to my commando and I'm very pleased with it
But to me the cnw one looks better made
So which should I vote?

Vote with your head, vote with your wallet, vote with your heart, or eenie-meenie-miney-mo...

I don't care, but go right ahead and vote which you think is best from what you know.

Ok, I have voted already. I have had a Mk3, installed a cNw and installed an Altan. Each worked as intended without complaints.
Without a doubt, the cNw is the superior product, but with the caveat that it will not allow an OEM ham can airbox to fit.

cNw aka : Matt Rambo..he has got my money in his wallet....Almost a year now but still no e start. So I can't comment just yet.

I have a mk3. In 3 years, I've used the kick-start once. Mine is apparently, an upgraded version of the starter motor, which ive not investigated. At the very start, I had to repair damage to the sprag, due to a failed tensioner causing swarf from chain to chaincase contact. Since then, it has been trustworthy and starts 1st time. Happy customer. Don't know if it helps, but I always pull the clutch lever when I press the magic button.

Alton do advise to pull in the clutch lever. Bearing in mind they use plastic sprag's it's wise to anyway in case the bike happens to be in gear.

I must admit I've started my Alton equipped commando on more than once ocaison in gear without pulling the clutch
The bike leaps forward
I've not sheared the plastic dowels as yet
