Certainly your feelings matter, but regarding parts quality, I tend to be a bit more objective. 👍🏻

Not quite sure, what you're picking at here.

🍻
No, I'm not intending to pick, I often spend more than I need!

I am also all for objectivity, as a Systems Engineer I used to write objective tests for a living! It's difficult, and hard, to rule out subjectivity.

Motorcycles are subjective and emotional, building, owning, maintaining and riding them does not always reward objectivity!

To be objective, you would need to conduct testing on several bearings and select the one that passed your tests. And that doesn't mean selecting the one that passed your tests by the greatest margin. That is definitely spending more than you need to.

You won't do that, and since you have unintentionally tested one to destruction, I would say you are looking to avoid repeating that by getting a subjective assessment that your choice will meet the demands of your riding! Choosing one brand over another is subjective! Even if that choice is based on experience that says the brand normally meets or exceeds spec.

Most of the time when we think we are being objective, we aren't!

And if we were, we would just sell up all our motorcycles and do something else!

 I may need that beer.

Good info, Thanks. Does that mean the new production Andover bearing are "one dot" C2. I have an OEM NOS 060750 and there are no markings on it, not one letter, number or even manufacturer. On old original Norton bearings , I have never seen the clearances marked.

I see.

I call it fixing junk. So to speak.

Not calling YOUR baby ugly.

My time is in way too short supply to use poor parts.

I envy all those with the luxury of time.

That looks like a fine mess you go yourself into. ( Old Laurel and Hardy line.)
Every day, I have to remind myself that:
I didn't design it
I didn't build it
I didn't buy it
I didn't neglect it
I didn't abuse it
I didn't wear it out
I didn't crash it.
I'm here to fix it.

So, when the big crocodile tears start flowing, regarding repair magnitude/cost, and the blame game, weaseling out of the bill, etc., I'm ready for it.

100% lack of basic cleaning, this spindle bearing failure.
Likely 15,000USD for this repair, this time. They have more than a hundred machines. Each with very complex engineered systems. All being neglected.

Labyrinth seal drain clogged with rancid, solidified coolant.

I hate waterbase coolants. Not only get gunky but just stink!!
You can't begin to imagine.... the filthy dungeons I go to.
🤮🤮
Bacteria multiplying, in stagnant pools, just like lifting the lid on a septic tank.

If you do manage to find a branded option it will have to be a NOS part all the big brands de listed the 1-1/4" ID many years back
BEWARE of LJ1 bearings which have the inner track re ground
Thanks again, Frankie, for bringing to light 💡 the reason the bearings with a re-ground I.D. , and not re-establishing the requisite radius were being sold.
Good detective work.
