Bent frame, still safe to ride? (2017)

I also have a 74 850 frame with the same 2 scars on the front downtubes. The bike was called " The Jumper" , sold to me cheap by Mike Jones who worked in the Movie stunts industry. Sidestand lug area was bent inwards too , telling me many kicks occurred whilst on the prop. My guess is crash bars fitted too tightly to both downtubes. :?

I'm resurrecting this thread because I just noticed I have what think are similar dents on the down tubes of a frame that came with a project I acquired. I was not able to view most of the images on this thread but the one I did see looks similar. On mine, there appear to be 3 different sets of marks, and the whole thing came powder coated. See pictures. I did not get a sense from reading the thread if this is just a cosmetic issue or is it a structural problem? Does anyone have an idea on this? Is there a way to determine integrity?

As long as the surface is intact and its just dents then its cosmetic
Glad to hear that. Thanks commando.

Is there a way to improve this cosmetically? It came already powder coated.

1. Remove the powder coat from affected area, then you fill the depressions with braze and dress back to round before powder coating full frame again. It should never have been powder coated in that state.

2. Leave the powder coat on, fill the depressions will a good filler, dress smooth and also sand the powdercoat to provide a key on the 2 down tubes. Then mask the good parts of the frame and spray the 2 down tubes with black paint.

I'm really surprised that someone would powder coat over that. Looks like damage from over tightened "highway pegs". Has the frame been used since powder coating?

I would go the Bondo and paint route.

I would find a powder coating shop that does motorcycle frames and talk to them about cosmetically improving the imperfections before I did anything else.

Thanks for the several good suggestions. I'll try to find a good resource to look at the frame.

My bike has similar compressions in the DT's. I think from highway bar and a subsequent tip over. My DTs are slightly distorted such that top right side is a little closer to cylinder head compared to other. Been wondering if it can be fully repaired. using some sort of steel clamping pipes to bring back to aligned and squeeze out dents.

Bike rides straight if bars released. Iso bolt not interferred.
