1) Have anybody personally experienced or directly knows someone else who has had a belt "fail" because of excess heat inside a completely covered primary? I have run my belt 100% enclosed for 16 years, with the same belt, here in the desert southwest USA in temps routinely over 100 degrees with no issues, none.

2) WHY did Norton choose to put the threaded gearbox adjustor on the right side instead of the more obvious drive side? Anyone care to speculate why? I assume cost would not be a factor as cannot see how putting it on one side or the other would cost the factory more money, or would it somehow?

I always figure it must be either sabatage or confusion as it certainly made no sense to me. Jim

Uno, every manufacturer and vendor of our belt drives states they are fine to run total sealed up dry. Most heat by far comes from direct conduction via the crank pulley. I & many others run em steaming hot sealed just fine, though it is a mental/emotional relief to vent them, its really only an artistic expression.

Dos, I can only guess Norton thought it lest hassle to factory crew to assemble with adjuster on the side opposite the primary cover. I put Peel's LH adjustor mounted forward for access. Thank goodness once belt set loose enough you can leave adjusters alone and knife edge mark where top tranny bosses land on cradle to reset after gearbox service.
