Belt drive installation.

So I´m putting a RGM belt drive in, complete with a new clutch and the extra adjuster on the gearbox. I wonder if you who have done this had any problems with the alignment? Been reading the instructions and they mention fabricating two metal tubes for the axles to be able to measure accurately. Have anybody done that or do you just check and adjust the gearbox so the belt doesn´t climb over one of the wheels?

Don't know about the rgm kit but with my norvil kit I just set the tension and kicked it over with the plugs out watching and adjusting the twin tensioners until the belt runs true
Only then did I fire it up to check it still ran true
After that just leave it alone
The norvil kit only has belt guides on the front pulley, I assume the rgm is the same?

I use two large 90° square (equerre ?) one on the front pulley the other on the drum , then joining them and check if the jointing face do not present any gap ( not easy to translate ) , just hope you see what I mean !!

I have always just used a steel ruler as a straight edge and a set of digital calipers to measure to it. Have not had a problem yet.

I use two steel rulers, one each pulley, and overlap them between the front pulley and the clutch. It's easy to see when they are lined up. You may still need a small adjustment to allow for any movement when the gearbox mainshaft is under tension from the belt.

Same here. I set the Norvil kit with the side plate off and adjusted until it ran true then installed the side plate and never a problem since.

mine went right in, i used a straight edge to check plane. i guess i got lucky, been working perfect for two years

To be honest… I’ve fitted loads of belts and they’ve always gone straight in !

I think if they don’t and something is out of line, the root cause needs looking into, but I think the majority will be fine the majority of the time.

I like that idéa!
