I finally got to go out for a test ride after getting my RGM belt drive installed. I left the primary cover off to keep an eye on things. I found I was getting a bit of a chirp from the clutch when pulling away from a light. Is this normal from running a dry clutch? Maybe it's more noticeable because the cover was off. I also sand blasted the plates when the clutch was apart, possibly they are a bit grippier and causing noise? Otherwise everything works well.
The clutch on my '71 (bought back in the day) "scronched" from when I bought it to when I sold it in '78. Worked perfectly the whole time as a daily rider and weekend racer.

The first three or four years I did not notice a chirp, but starting last year I found I can make it chirp if I let the clutch out and feed in the power a little faster than usual, and that is with the cover in place (although I do have the tin discs removed for ventilation). So far it has not been a problem.

Likely just the dry plates improperly initially bedded in so
tiny ripples develop in friction surfaces for the chirp to clatter
on first hooking up.
Barnett says to fully wet plates in ATF then wipe off excess
on first install of dry primary. This allows some initial
slip w/o chatter un-evenness till each surface mated.
Might try a flat sanding of friction plates and re-install
with ATF residue method.
My first Combat would chirp and hesitate in acceleration
hitting 2nd on entering hi way with a steep slope, thought
is was clutch slip at first but turned out to be tire spin.
So just didn't snick 2nd under as much power in those conditions.

How come I can never figure out how to highlite the quotie bits????
I was a little ticked that I had to do extra machining on the center hub as there were rubbing issues between the center and outer basket. I also had to make up a .013" shim to take up the end float between the bearing and the snap ring. The good thing was I had access to a lathe.

Select the "Quote" option of the member's message you wish to quote, and then delete the text you do not want to quote from between the two quote tags.
The quoted text has to be inside both "quote" tags, so it should look like this in your "post a reply" box (if any part of either tag is deleted then the quote will not show correctly):

If you want to add more quotes as you type, then select where you want to put the new quote, scroll down and find the message you wish to quote from, highlight the particular piece of text and click the "Quote" button on the right, the text should then appear at the selected location in your "post a reply" box?
Alternatively, copy and paste the text into your message, then highlight it, and click the "Quote" button above the reply box, this will highlight the text as a quote-but there will be no member's name included.
