OK, Rant time and a lesson!
I have my fork refurbishment kit on Ebay. Duke Dodge in the USA wants one.
So puts his Commando sliders in the post and UPS deliver's them to my door....OK?
Wrong ! Because Duke puts a $200 value on the declairation, Our customs grab them and deceide in there wisdom its $200 each.
Ups email me saying they want £21 handling fee and some forms to fill in, before the parts are released.
So i down load the forms. print them off, sign them ,scam back to my computer and then re-send them back to UPS.
Sue at UPS ask's on behalf of UK customs what the declairation "To be returned" means I said "I only require them for measuring"
"O" she says, I will get back to you...next email ask's me to declaire myself as an Importer/exporter and more forms need to be signed!

I have only a limited amount of hair to pull out and at this rate its going fast.
So Any UK commando lads on the forum reading this, thinking of buying stuff from the states ,,,be affrad...be very AFFRAID :!: :!:

So you have the guy send you sliders from the US to be measured by you and sent back?

Not really, i clean up the slider bore then press in a sleeve, the "finnished internal dia is honed and bush's made to suit the finnished hone size,
I have sent out the kits for home fitting, the job can be a night mare if the slider is not honed out and checked if the bore as no burs in...the liner can be distored and the job develops into shite!

Went I sent a carb to Canada to have re-sleeved there was something that I had to put on the customs form so they knew it was to be returned. Of course I don't recall what it was. May be something diff over there because of VAT.

Ugh. One part of the magic phrases to pass the demons ports is
< Used motorcycles parts pre-1972 >

I learned an important lesson two years ago when I bought a sprocket for my Bonneville from a California supplier. They used UPS for shipping it here in Québec (Canada) and I ended up paying over 50$ in "brokerage and related fees" to UPS for a 75$ sprocket!!!

From that moment on, I never bought from a supplier who would not give the option with Canada Post or USPS.

Many consider that way of doing business very questionable!

The box to check on the UPS form is: "repair and return." If that is checked it should go out and back in to the same country with no duty at all. Any counrty would be very foolish to not allow this since it is bringing work into the country for one of thier citizens. If you use a UPS service that know thier stuff they should supply the return envalope and forms before it is even sent so the repair person doesn't even have to fill anything out or pay for return postage.

Greetings to all from Puerto Escondido , Mexico. Great sun and fishing but no Nortons here so not perfect. Never use U.P.S. to internationally ship unless you like to pay big 50 dollar brokerage scam fees each time someone hands a clipboard list to the customs man. Hidden too. Enjoy winter all ,2 dollar mixed drinks on the beach in 31 Celcious .

Hi Jacking the thread, but John what is the bush thing you mount? Is that in the slider, or is it something in the stanchion?

Cheers Richard

Oh, sorry guys, what I said before is not on a UPS form. It is on a DHL form. DHL seems to handle government entities better than most.

Check ebay UK, Its all there! Wonderfull!

My JS carb kit sat in the GPO for a week before they got there collective arses in gear and charged me an extra £72 import duty,/tax/ handling fee. even then I had to go collect them from the mail depot. Next time I'll take a holiday to the vendors town and bring stuff back in my cabin baggage. still worked out cheaper than a new pair of rubbermounted Mk2 amals.

UPS - Pronounced: You - PiS - (Me - Off)

Just say "UPS" and than add "Me Off" at the end.
