Battery

I will check asap. But i have to take the tank off. Probably not something for the next couple of days i'm afraid.

Follow your throttle cables down to your throttle body and you will see the idle adjust screw. You will need a 1.5 mm Allen wrench, Takes about 10 seconds!

I'm buying a Factory bike with factory support however. Norton have already told me if anything goes wrong with my bike I'll have to pay to have it delivered back to them and pay them for parts and labour. For a bike with less than 3k on the clock buys shouldn't be breaking
 
Sorry to hear your giving up so soon . Norton is not a bike for everyone I suppose. Do not take this as criticism . All of this information on these websites are meant to help us with Norton ownership . Unfortunately it drives some away. For the others , I have found another battery . It might take awhile for the new company to get all of the bugs out of the new bike, although it has been out for a few years now. I believe Triumph had some issues at the rebirth and now produces excellent products, hopefully Norton can do the same.

I can honestly agree with this statement, but the fact remains, we are the guinea pigs in the lab and it does get frustrating. I'm going to use my bike this season. If over next winter, I leave it to have the oil leak fixed on the crankcase (minor), but especially develop any serious problems during the season, like the starter horror or getting stuck due to a clogged air filter, I'm done. I'll trade it in and take the proverbial whipping. These quirks, like the whack! cold start, the intermittent increase of RPM while idling (maybe 1800), some weird vibration once in a while when accelerating.....its all nerve wracking stuff. If it is just that, quirky, I'm ok with it. But if it leads to another season in the shop, I'll ride a Ducati Monster 1200S home. Sorry fellas.....but I'm not that hardcore.

The "wack" on cold start is definitely not a characteristic of this bike. Did you read Richards thread on the ring gear bolts loosening up, I would definitely pull your primary cover and do the check he suggested before starting the bike again!
 
The extent of my electrical systems knowledge is that you shouldn’t put a 9v battery on you tongue whilst dangling your penis in a cup of sparkling water! OK I added the penis thing, but the reference to my general electrical ignorance stands. You can’t see it and it can kill you - it’s my only defence.

My beutiful CR has always been on a battery tender, no problem starting first push on the go button. Battery now almost two years old and even on the tender is not holding enough charge to start the bike without several attempts. Bike turns over, no go go. Oxford battery tender before starting attempt reads 12.8V. Turn lights off and she starts, showing 14.5v on the tender and 14.4v on the clocks whilst running. Not riding due to the current Zombie apocolypse (well that’s what it feels like).

Long story, short question. Is my battery done? Just about to order a replacement Yuasa unless the brains trust has any advice on the matter. I throw my ignorant self at the mercy of the forum elders - sarcasm expected and encouraged!

Any input would be appreciated.

2 years isn't old for a battery in my eyes, could be it just needs a "boot" with a beefier charger, 'off bike' of course.

Good point Al, I need a second battery charger anyway so I have researched the NOCO Genius G3500 which looks like a great unit. Outstanding writeup and it’s available in Aus. Interestingly it has a repair mode. Look forward to seeing what that will do.

I have a 2016 sport tried a few different batteries the last one being a BS BTZ 14S seems to be ok and cost £70 GBP.
 
I went with the Shorai option (LFX19A4-BS12) It lasts for about 10 days without a charge. I have the Shorai charger and leave it on "Store" mode. My garage is not near my home so its necessary. Its a PITA when I forget to plug it in sometimes so I bought a Scosche jumper battery that I'm just waiting to install the quickconnect leads.

The quick connect lead will be left on the bike permanently so I'll not need the jumper clamps. Idea is if I forget to plug the Shorai in I can jump the bike easily and if there's any doubt that the battery won't restart on the road I can carry the jumper pack with me. Its the same size as my Iphone 10. Its a powerful unit, it has jump-started my Harley without any bother. The quick connect leads also come with a SAE connector so I can run all my regular items off also, Battery checker, USB port etc

You might want to fit a battery isolation switch to solve this problem.

So I guess we are back to the parasitic current draw with the key off ? Might be easier and cheaper for him to just pull the optimate/clocks fuse ? Assuming its the instruments again . Maybe we ought to have him check his parasitic draw with key off ?

That was definitely considered. I would lose the clock tho, not a big deal but I was buying the Scosche kit anyway for my other bikes so thats where we are.

Its better than what it was before I changed the Tach. 10 days now as opposed to 3/4 days before but its still not ideal.
