battery numbers

Hi All -Just wondering what numbers I should see on a new battery to ensure compatibility -- '72 commando (combat) Or due each manufacturer use their own

Either a YB9-B, 12N9-4B-1 or equivalent type.

12N9-4B-1 YUSASA is what I have for my Combat.

Regarding the Yuasa battery, I was looking at Yuasa's equivalent AGM item. Both are 12V, 9 AH batts. The only difference I see is that the cranking amps on the wet battery are rated at 85 and the AGM shows 120 CCA. Does anyone know if this should be a concern? I'm not using an electric starter or anything.

I run a 16CLB in my 1971 Commando because it just fits in the space and provides much more reserve capacity. The boyer likes the added power too. She's a one kick wonder when tickled gingerly.

I'll admit I'm far from expert on this, but according to what you've said, you're using a battery with anywhere from 16 to 19 Amp/Hr. That is apparently not too much for the Boyer? I wonder how much juice you can get away with?

If there's no starter, then the amount of battery CCA (cold cranking amps) isn't important.

Not a concern. That's typical of AGM vs wet cell. Please inform as to what the "equivalent" is, and provide a link if possible. I looked high and low for an exact replacement AGM and was unable to locate one.

I installed the 12N9-4B-1 size battery in my 850. I just got the basic $29.99 generic battery at the local auto parts store. Since I rarely go more than a few days between rides, I didn't think it was necessary to invest in an expensive battery, and haven't had any issues.

The amp/hr rating of a battery is how much it can supply. The amperage draw is determined by the current-using device. In this case the Boyer. The Boyer doesn't care how much amperage capacity is there as long as it meets its minimum requirement.

The battery rating should be at least enough to supply the Boyer and all running lights at the same time. I'm too lazy to figure this, but the factory 9 AH rating should be sufficient. Higher rated batteries may operate longer between external charging if your alternator system isn't up to snuff.
