Battery Charger Cable

Does anyone know if the remote battery charge connection lead is fused.....and if so where is it located.....don't tell me under the tank!

Please read above post : There is a fuse labeled Clocks/optimate in the fuse box 10A !!!

Thanks guys, I have just bought the bike and joined the forum. I checked the 10amp fuses under seat all seemed intact, but will check again. I have found two of those white Tm type connectors, presumably for charging and any ancillaries? One stuffed under tank with a weatherproof cover (this is the connector I was using and that has shorted) and one with no weather cover hidden in the left rear frame, (this one still operational with my charger), so after owning a week and not having ridden it yet finding out some of the Norton foibles! Tony.... does the schematic show both of these connectors fused from under the seat?

The one on the left seems to be the OEM connector. Is the bike secondhand? The other one may be mounted by the previous owner...

To close this thread, yep bike is "pre-owned" and seems the connector under the tank is an additional non factory fit, and very tidy it is too, with weatherproof plug protection! Loosened off tank, and accessed the cables that ran direct to Battery terminals and found the in line 15amp fuse blown, changed and all now ok. Thx for the assistance.

My 2015 came new with CTEK type charger plug under the tank and optima type tucked into the top of the rear left shock

I wonder why someone went to the trouble of fitting a connector when there was already one there?

I bought my '14 sport with 259 miles on the clock. It had the charger adapter. Is that a factory install.

...... just to add one last point, and it is mentioned elsewhere, but the pre wired TM connector I bought from Maplins as a temporary measure to get some form of charge to the battery from my Optimate croc clip adapater, was indeed reverse polarity (red wire was the -ve. I then bought an O7 Optimate connector from Pro Bike UK tried it yesterday and hey presto it was the correct polarity, so happy days, works correctly on both fittings on my bike. I can see owning a Norton is going to be a journey, so thanks to all involved in setting up this Forum, I suspect I will be learning from it longer term!

The factory installed charger plug is tucked in at the top of the rear shock. It is a white connector , not like a Battery Tender plug. (CTEK or Optimate) I think. Every Norton 961 should have this... This is fused in the fuse Box 10A and in the service manual this fuse is called Clocks/Optimate . I also installed a Battery Tender type charging cable attached directly to the battery terminals . there is a 7.5A fuse in this cable as well. If your charging cable is connected directly to the battery posts then it is aftermarket not Norton factory. I have a Shorai Battery and the Shorai website says that Battery Tender is OK to use with their battery. I had a few of these chargers in the garage already and am very happy with them. I did not want to buy yet another battery charger/maintainer . The Battery Tender is working just fine with the Shorai and its been over a year now .

Mine came with an SAE from the dealership. I didn't know there was a factory installed one until I was told by Norton. The dealership never told me. I've been only using the SAE anyway.

I hate to spend a post on this, but I can't find the answer and my battery is getting low.

I've been reading older posts about the weakness of the stock battery and the need to keep it on a charger (which is what I normally do). The cable coming out from under the seat has some kind of UK connector on it (possibly KET/TM connector?). Am I confused or is there a second cable with a regular SAE connector somewhere? Otherwise, does everyone change the cable as soon as possible or find an adapter?

Thanks in advance!

get a battery tender it comes with a connection to the battery....... pretty straight forward. If bike sits for any amount of time they will trickle down the charge. Best to keep it on a tender if not in daily use.

Contours , You need to take the Gas Tank off and attach a Battery Tender type connector Harness
to the battery posts. Then zip tie it to the harness and bring it out by the throttle bodies. When replacing the gas tank be careful , don't drop it and DO NOT overtighten the gas tank front hold down screws . These can be easily stripped in the plastic tank. !

Or cut off that damn white connector and attach a plug harness of your choice .. But do not short it out when cutting it. Take the seat off an remove the clocks/optimate fuse so there is no power there. Or buy an Optimate charger , it should have that style plug already ? Or maybe a CTEK ? Call the company/store and see if they can tell you what type of harness/plug comes with them.

I bought one of these adapters for my '16 Commando 961. Plug it into the white connector under the seat, and the other end can be plugged into by your Deltran Battery Tender style plug.

Um - this is an old post - I don't really have a problem any longer. It all started when I couldn't get my Shorai to charge and was forced to re-install the stock battery. But the next time I feel like pulling the tank off (again) I will probably install a BT type connector. I have at least 2 of those laying around.
