I just found out about a killer motorcycle road in
Virginia its rt 16 they call it the back of the dragon... I understand Virginia tourism council is promoting it heavily as better than deals gap,32 miles of twisties with no " big brother watching" hassles I may be s little late to this party but from what I'm reading and seeing on u tube it's surely worth checking out has anyone been there ? How can it not be spectacular... Right ! Well me and some buddies are going to check it out on some vintage British bikes, I'll be on my CNW bike we will
Have s couple of /2 bmw's and a couple of old triumphs,I will post a review about our ride... This might be the excuse I was looking for to buy that gopro camera, anyone on our forum been there and if so what's the "skinny " on it.... More later

I am not far from there and have rode it several times. A word of warning WATCH FOR GRAVEL as it is a country road with farm trucks pulling trailers and VA uses chat instead of salt. If you are coming to ride that road you should contact me (se sig line ) as I know of other roads to ride also.

OHMYGAWD they use the chips here and after snow/ice gone a season or so it becomes invisiable to see on road as exact same texture and color but still very effective dry lube I have crashed on in straight section going really carefully mid 30 mph nil throttle on my 1st ride back on Trixie and just had leaned a enough to slow ease more towards center of my lane d/t seeing some traffic apporaching so next thing I knew was wondering what the sparks seen ahead of me were from till R glove palm wore through and bone pain made me realize was not in saddle no more and watched her slide a few dozen yds to a stop. That is how fast and easy a take down THE Grit can be in a straight section so have fun on the turns.

I've ridden a portion of this road. It's a good'n... But so are many many roads in the area covering where VA, TN, & NC meet. This is just one amongst em. IMO, once they begin naming roads and promoting them, it's over. Having said that, check out the "Snake" at Shady Valley TN.

It's still possible to have fun on some of these named "attractions". If you ride em during the week or off season.

US 33 from Elkins, W. Va. to Harrisonburg, Va. is very entertaining, especially the Judy Gap and Brandywine sections.
