With Avon and Bridgstone drying up I found a decent economical tire that is available. Its a copy of a Bridgstone spitfire tread.

Shinko 10 SR 712F rear - 110/90 - 19 - 62H with 130MPH speed rating

I thought Shinko were just old Yokohama designs. Have you tried one of the above tyres Jim?
 
I put these on my Laverda SF2 recently, front and rear in 18 inch. haven't put many miles on yet, but they seem to handle fine. However, I'm not seeing the rear being available in a 19 inch diameter for the Norton.

Yes I'm running one on the rear and it handles fine. As kommando said - its a 19" front tire. You have to mount it so the arrows of rotation run backwards because stress is from accelleration on the rear and from breaking on the front. A 100/90 works well on the front with the arrows running as normal.
 
I’ve run the Conti “roadattack3cr” (https://www.continental-tires.com/m...res/classic-classic-racing/contiroadattack3cr) on my RD400 racer for the past few seasons and they are very grippy and predictable, but sadly not available in 19”.

Shinko has been scoffed at and derided as junk- but I have bought a few sets of them for budget projects and I have been pleased with them every single time. They may not last for 10,000 miles or grip like a race tire but for sane use they are perfectly fine. I think it’s worth noting that even the cheapest tires now available from the sketchiest locations likely outperform anything that could have been purchased when our bikes were new.
 
Is anyone using the Heidenau K34?

I have one front on my N15, and I like it.
The block pattern gives a little more grip on dirt roads ( I think..)

I like the idea.
Still searching for a replacement for the Avon Road Rider.
Ordered up two BT46's last night.
Be careful, a 100% price delta between the highest & lowest vendors. 🤡
 
Probably my next tires. They have 100-19 front and rear versions which are the perfect size for WM2 rims. Looks like they are steel belted radials. Did you install them yourself or use a tire machine?
100/90-19 tires usually spec WM3/2.15" rims and that one is no exception
(however I do realize that many run them on WM2/1-85" rims and live to tell the tale)

I spooned a set of those onto my 850 (and another on an airhead BMW). Total PITA - the sidewalls are incredibly inflexible, which is exactly the opposite of what I would have expected.

The tires themselves are okay. About the same overall as the Bridgestone BT-45s they replaced. They do want more PSI though (else cold to warm pressures rise more than my customary 10%).

So, did Norton Commandos always come from the factory with rims (WM2) too narrow for their tires?
 
4.10 TT100 are really too big for them and that is what was back in the day. They just cheaped out.
A very unusual move for the brit bike companies. :)

The original tyre sizes were 3.00 - 19 front and 3.50 - 19 rear, later both were 4.10.
4.10 - 19 Avon or Dunlop can be fitted to WM2 (1.85) because 4.10 replaces 3.50 although WM2 would not be the "recommended" rim width now.

I dread changing my tires as they have always been a PITA. I went and got a Harbor Freight unit and then all the upgrades that are available for the unit.The only thing that worked well was the bead breaker. I ended up using my spoons on the floor.My Boranni WM-4 rims have a safety bead and I don’t know if that is my problem but I am seriously considering going to a shop to have my new tires installed as the rims are too pretty to disfigure.

Feked in the UK still has Avon Roadriders, I had a set delivered to N.J. in under a week. AN shows them on their web site, but I don't know their availability.

This looks like a great tire machine if you want to spend the $:

I use the HF bead breaker to break the tire off the rim and Shorty composite tire spoons (which I believe are not available any more) to dis-mount and mount the tires. I also use an old Ford F-250 deep rim with a moving blanket placed on top to hold the rim while installing the tire.
