I have just bought an Atlas for rebuilding. It came in from the USA & has a Nova certificate. Is the next step to insurure & MOT it before I can apply for a reg. plate, or have the rules changed?

Martyn.

No, a bit more complicated now, the MOT is not clear but my reading is that if you have a dating cert that shows an MOT is not needed then a V112 will be ok.

The dating cert is more involved, there are 2 types, 1 for a bike using all its original parts and 2 for one made from a collection. The first is easier , 2nd requires the date of manufacture to be that of the youngest main part, both will need verification with photo's sides plus closeups of numbers, could also require a visit.

Hence the dating cert cost has increased.

From the NOC site, VMCC is an alternative.

To obtain an age related registration number you must have:-

  • The fully assembled machine. Do not apply if you have only the frame or parts
  • A current certificate of insurance or cover note for the vehicle
  • A current MoT certificate for the vehicle (if applicable)
  • If the vehicle will be MOT exempt, a completed V112 form, available here.
  • A copy of DVLA Form V55/5, which can be downloaded from the DVLA here.
  • You should also read the notes on filling in V55/5, available here.
Two versions of the application form are available:

Where a bike has been restored from the original parts:

Where a bike has been restored using parts from multiple sources:

Send the following to the NOC Records Officer:-

  • The completed application form.
  • Images of each side of the complete machine in its current condition
    (2 copies of each)
  • Images or rubbings of both the Frame No. and the Engine No.
    (2 copies of each)
  • If the engine is not a Norton engine, e.g. Triton, send the details of the engine and the cubic capacity
  • Payment to the Norton Owners Club:
  • Members Non-Members
    NOC2 £20 £50
    NOC3 £35 £65

Hi Martyn,
Excuse my ignorance but what is a Nova certificate?
Ed

NOVA is a UK Govt certificate that confirms import taxes and duties have been paid to HRMC and so that DVLA can register the vehicle for the road as long as its meets DVLA requirements.

https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk/telling-hmrc

All dating certs now say if the vehicle was first despatched to a UK or non UK dealer/Importer. Any flagged as being despatched outside of UK need NOVA.

Thanks for that Kommando. That's good news because it means I don't need to get it running to get a logbook. Thinking I better had before they decide to change the rules again. The bike is complete bar the carbs & footrests but very scruffy.
Ed, the NOVA is Notification Of Vehicle Arrivals & shows that tax has been paid etc.

Martyn.
