Atlas rectifier mounting

I mwondered where the rectifier mounts on 1967 Atlas...Mine is now mounted on the inside of battery box

My '63 has it mounted under the tool tray. Just about dead center.

Yep, my 66 Atlas has it mounted under the tool tray as well

Do you mean "inside" the battery box as "in the battery box", or as "on the in side wall (between battery box and oil tank)?

If "in the battery box", it will not get cooling airflow, and you should move it.If you are not concerned with purity, it should be OK between battery box and oil tank as far as function goes.

That was where my rectifier was bolted, between the oil tank and b/box.
The set up at the time (1965 Model) was 2 x Lucas 6volt batteries, and the nut that protruded inside the box missed the battery. I changed that by making my own battery carrier for a single 12 volt battery.

Mine was between oil tank and battery box, lower right hand corner..Thinking I will move to under the toolbox...There is a hole there with a reinforcing plate..

That hole and reinforcing plate is where it goes....

I have a magneto and decided to eliminate the battery. I mounted a Podtronics rectifier/regulator over that reinforcing plate. It required a thin (0.040 inch) square donut shaped shim to make a flat pad for the Podtronics unit. I used a flat 4 conductor trailer connector to splice it in to the main harness. A fuse holder with 15 A fuse mounted in the battery box (with a cushioned grommet to protect fuse from vibes) completes the conversion.

The Atlas has shed a few bits, and it will be awhile before I test and evaluate the conversion, but I think it will be well worth it. The '63 has no over-voltage Zener diode.

I replaced my charging system on Commando with 3 phase lucas and podtronics....Works really well..Going to give the rectifier and zener a try before changing more up...
