Atlas oil tank breather lines

1966 Atlas...stock oil tank.....it has two 3/8" breather tubes, one facing backward and one facing forward. Which one is correct for the engine breather?
 
On my 1962 Atlas the forward facing one is for the engine breather, the rear facing one goes to a spigot on the rear chain guard.
