I believe you own an 850 Mk.3, if so, then personally, I do not recommend you use ATF in the primary.

As for the Mk3 thing........
I started my bike up a few days ago....... and There arose such a clatter, I got down on my knees to see what was the matter. 8)
It seems that the hydraulic primary chain tensioner had lost its prime and was not doing it's job. the primary chain rattling around was the cause of the noise.
I pumped it back up and all is good once again.
I can only assume if 50 wt. will leak down, the thinner ATF will only allow it to happen faster.
