Ashman's CNW starter

Aw, shucks, t'weren't nuthin...

I had NO CLUE why I was committing to buying that starter kit, I didn't have a bike to put it in. As it was, I had FORGOTTEN where in the heck it was or whether it was still there!

I believe God points me in certain direction to see whether I'll do the right thing, or do as I please...

Maybe and a big maybe, you are just a good person and thinking of others is your best point in life.

My mates i haven't seen for awhile are going for a ride and brekkie somewhere, my mate Kevin had a bad accident a few years ago and his wife told him she had enough of all his injuries from bikes and told him no more bikes or she be walking, so now he picking me up tomorrow in his car and we driving to catch up with the other mates, be good to see them all again.

When we get back going to get Kev to pull my lift table out from under my snooker table and roll it into the workshop and get him to push the Norton up on it so i can start on the pull down ready for the starter and ready for the other mods needed, not sure about the battery size yet so will mount the original Featherbed oil tank and make room behind it on the left side to mount a battery tray.

Been many years since i done any major work on my Norton, 15 years in fact, so looking forward to doing it as well better working on the bike and not doing anything other than recovering, i can't wait to learn to walk again and throw my new leg over the bike again, 4 months is the longest time without riding any bike, so miss it.

That's great, Ash! It'll be great to see some old friends, and preparing for the retrofit will be awesome.

Well, ALRIGHT!

Good to know the actual project is taking wing...

@ashman - I havent been around here for a while, so I am late on parade to this and just going thru your accident thread. So sorry to read, but i have to say, Good on ya, mate!

And props to everyone here! My $0.02 will have to be virtual.

I had to replace my Shorai a couple of years ago, and at that time they had just been sold and were not exporting to NZ any longer.

I ended up going with a BS Battery, which are OEM stock on Aprillas. Cost was good, and tidy units. Would buy again.

Post in thread 'Shorai Lithium Life' https://www.accessnorton.com/NortonCommando/shorai-lithium-life.39468/post-681315

You want at least an 18ah unit for the CNW. Cranks it over like a beast and you get plenty of goes if the bike is being a bitch that day. I think the outer shell is the same dimensions until you go too small.

I watched this series Mike put out right before I installed my CNW kit. It was very helpful.

And, RTFM! 3x! Then go!

Best wishes,
G

I posted this before in another thread, and since I like my own writing voice so much I thought I would post it again here...

The cNw e-start kit weighs 24 lbs complete.

Remove the weight of the stock inner primary, front sprocket, chain and clutch basket and your net weight gain is 11 lbs over a stock, chain drive, set up

This does not take in account further weight reduction with the Barnett clutch (over a Bronze stack) and possible battery weight.

Bronze plates weigh 1085g
A motobatt 9ah weighs 3364g
That is 4449g or 9lbs 13oz

Barnett plates weigh 349g
A 18ah Shorai weighs 1073g
That is 1422g or 3lbs 3oz

A savings of 3027g or 6lbs 10oz.

So, if the CNW kit itself adds 11 lbs, less the savings of the Barnett + Shorai, then it is only a total gain of 4lbs 6oz or 1984g.

In your case, since you never had a battery to start with, the weight gain is ~5364g.

Just skip a couple pints, a steak and ice cream and have a salad...for a few weeks.

Well worth the price of admission in this case, IMHO.

Well it was a great morning catching up with old riding mates and a nice brekkie at Woodford at a small cafe, some mates I haven't seen for a long time, was home after 10:30 but Ross phoned me up just before and said they done 300 kms on the bikes after our meet up, just wish I could have been with them, 11 bikes on the run, next run in a few weeks be a meet up out at Esk, can't wait as its good to get out of the house and spend time with good mate I grew up with.

Did you ever go out to Mount Mee?

Did you ever go out to Mount Mee?
Mt Mee use to be one of my favourite rides back in the early days was great play ground for when I first built my 850 Featherbed, but these days the weekend worriers hit it pretty hard and so do the cops it has many speed cameras, most hidden and the speed limits have been lowered too much to have fun and so I avoid it these days.

Well, there was this bloke having a beer at the Woodford pub, who asked the barmaid if there was any chance of getting a lift to Mount Mee.
She said at the top of her voice to the busy bar, " Is anyone going to Mount Mee? Is anyone going to Mount Mee?"
There was a hushed silence before one old guy replied "Yeh, I'll have a crack love"
