Country flag
This morning I noticed my daughter was looking more tired than usual and asked of her state of mind. Horrified, I hear that, following a few weeks seconded to ICU, she is experiencing sleepless nights following recurring dreams of the poor, alone patients that she has sat with and comforted as they died. Additionally, recollections of conversations with colleagues, now returned to their usual clinic following weeks on COVID wards, uncontrollable crying and anxiety following being present and involved in so many deaths. Then I turn on the TV and listen o the usual placating drivel of those in charge and the world's obsession with the it's minor troubles. Then the ongoing campaign to rid our country of it's heroes that built this great country. I know it's great as I've experienced most of the shit-holes of the world, and concluded that, even though we don't always get it right we're always damn close. We have an ineffectual police force, and inept government, and a ruling class that continue to line their pockets and screw the rest of us. But we will get over this, stay safe!

I know we mustn't do politics, but they called Theresa: 'The Appeaser!' Seems Boris And Kier are happy to bend any which way too...

Personally, to start with Khan must be removed from his laughable position of Mayor of London, he should never have attained the position and I consider him to be a threat to National Security, as what happens in London generally influences the UK. Cressida Dick (for God's sake what a name) the 'Police Commissioner' as mentioned above should go as well, she is utterly useless even with diminished funding. The Police should start to do their job ie. protecting people and property , not being some sort of social service.

Sadly the demography of London now is such that Khan will only be replaced by similar, note the Conservative candidate's stance on recent events. And yes, policing in this country does seem to have taken a terrible nosedive in recent years, but when we've reached the stage where two can be set upon in broad daylight, with the public just choosing to capture it all on mobile phone (Hackney, a couple of days back), then things desperately need to change. And whilst the rest of the world may shout xenophobia from a safe distance, hopefully our withdrawal from the EU will enable some long needed reformations...

Ref. policing, if we can't give them 'balls', metaphorically speaking, isn't it time they were armed?

That's a dangerous route and one I would guess most police may baulk against too. It could easily promote escalation. But it's a sad reflection on where we are that it even becomes an issue. We do need better VISIBLE policing, the reliance on CCTV is frankly a joke. It HAS got to the stage where I am jealous of our American cousin's: 'Right To Bear Arms'.

I have said British Police should be armed for years, it's not 1920 any more ! Them maybe that poor copper knifed outside parliament would have stood a chance.

I personally think an overhaul of the courts and penal system is long overdue. Rehabilitation, yes, but we need deterrent too..

Rehabilitation and deterrent are fair objectives of the penal system.

But what’s not discussed is crime prevention and protection of society.

Some criminals (and I’m thinking depraved sex criminals here) are just not right in the head. They are wired up differently. They cannot and will not ever ‘change’ because their internal wiring is fixed.

When someone has demonstrated that they have a pathological inability to behave within the fundamental rules of society, then they should not be allowed to roam free in society. PERIOD.

These people cannot be rehabilitated, and cannot be deterred. They must therefore be removed from society.

Thats why I favour the death penalty, its the best, and cheapest, way to ensure they are permanently removed from society. Or, if that’s too much for the liberal WOKE brigade, we should at least ensure that life should mean life.

Honestly, it’s quite straight forward when you think about it !

I wouldn't like our police force armed personally. I think with the state of our justice system at the moment. there lays the main problem. the punishment never fits the crime anymore. there is no deterrent. I personally am an advocate of capital punishment. you kill a child, copper whatever. you should forfeit yours. as that will never happen again in our society. it should be a full life term. if coppers were armed then most hardened criminals would be also. I certainly wouldn't want that prospect every day I went to work

hadn't read before posting myself

From our current Home Secretary before she got the job:

She told the BBC in 2011: “I do think that when we have a criminal justice system that continuously fails in the country and where we have seen murderers and rapists reoffend and do those crimes again and again I think that’s appalling.
“On that basis alone I would support the reintroduction of capital punishment to serve as a deterrent.”

[/QUOTknew it wasn't just her pretty face. is that the correct spelling:)E]

That was then... But this is now, she may have to tow the party line and adopt a different stance. But I do feel those that show scant or no regard for the life of another should do so with the knowledge that they could be putting their own at risk..
