Ash is in hospital

On Sunday a my mate Joe came over he was leaving to go back to Thailand to his new wife, my beer fridge was near full so we had a session with a the beer, after consuming 24 cans of heavy beers Joe wanted to take us out for tea so a trip to our local pub for a very expensive meals and more drinks as well car rides he spent over $300, pubs are no longer cheap for their meals and drinks, Joe has more money than sense.
But before leaving home to go out I had a bit of an accident getting up out of my wheelchair and onto my crutches at the back laundry door my crutch got caught up on the drainage grill and I went arse up on my arse, my mate Joe freaked out and was trying to pull me up but was causing me more grief doing so and the bottom of my stump hit the concrete a few times till I told my mate to stop I can get up myself, so after a few days my bottom right cheek is sore, I say its bruised and have a little bit of skin wear/rash on the bottom of my stump, lucky not cut open as that would be the end of rehab till it healed up.
Monday had to take the new leg back to the leg makers and they asked if the wound on my stump was from my stump bottoming out on the leg mould and I said no and told them what happened from my fall, so all good can keep going with the walking training, just got to keep a eye on it while doing rehab, they will take my leg off me this morning and only be allowed to wear it at rehab till I can walk normal with it.
My mate Joe caused the gaze on my stump trying to pull me up as it was rubbing on rough concrete that did the damage, I kept telling him to stop as it was easier for me to pull myself up, so now hope it hasn't set me back with rehab and learning to walk again, just lucky it's a gaze and not an open wound.
Well glad Joe has flown out at midnight last night so I can slow down on what I drink, he just don't know when to stop drinking even when he can no longer stand, me I enjoy a cold beer or 2 but I no longer drink till I fall over when pissed but Sunday night I did have a few to many but the fall wasn't from being pissed out of my brain, just my right crutches got caught up on the drainage grill, well I am blaming that anyway lol.
Now Joe has gone things will get back to normal, well near so anyway.

It's just how it goes sometimes
I was away from Friday until this morning at a bike show with a 24 HR bar
I fell over 3 times on Sunday night trying to get on a poxy airbed apparently 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hope you haven't done any damage Ash

Had rehab this morning and the stump is fine, the damage from the fall was right on the bottom of the stump and when the leg is on there is a gap from the bottom of the stump to the peg leg so the workout didn't effect it but I had to remove the leg a few time so they could check on the grazing, but everything looked good, they also let me take my leg home with me.
My wife came with me in the taxi so she carried my leg for me, my training is starting to work and doing the walking the way they want me to so things are slowly coming good and my hip and stump/leg is starting to work together and my brain is learning the new way of walking with a peg leg, so I am sure the rehab physio's are very happy with the short time I had my new leg with them and my progress is going so good, it's only been 2 weeks since I had the leg, so it won't be long before my full time leg will be made.
At the leg makers yesterday they did a few minor adjustments to the leg mould and it felt so much better today in rehab, Thursday the leg makers are coming up to my next rehab to see how things are going with my leg and the way my training is going so I think they be looking at the next leg.
Things are starting to look up for me, but still got to do the right thing as they don't want me to be walking around with the leg until they are happy, but they said I am doing better than most amputees with my progress, getting closer, can't wait to play snooker/pool again and get back into the train layout as well working on the Norton, fu ck I going to be very busy soon.

Well had a big day up at rehab yesterday had 3 physio trainers as well 3 people from the leg makers came up to my training session, was hard going through my session with so many eyes on me to watch my progress, well the good news they booked me in on the 8th June to make my new full time leg, in such a short time of learning to walk again things are progressing fast and the training before I even got my training leg is starting to pay off, it's been hard work for my learning to walk differently from normal walking but things are starting to fall into place.

So on the 8th of June I lose my training leg and 2 days later I have my new full time leg which I have to learn again as there be more ankle and foot movement so have to get used to that, things are progressing fast now, lucky the CTP insurance came to the party as it would have been a 12 month wait just to get a leg, so just over 5 months now from the accident and by the end of this recovery year things are looking up for me to getting back on life again, won't never be the same but that will be up to me to enjoy what I have missed.

Debra is having a few sets back her 9 ribs she injured is playing up and she been getting a lot of pain from them, ribs take so long to recover, her leg injury is also giving her some problems as well, she is a broken down woman at the moment and I can't do much to help her with my own situation, I have my limits in what I can do for her, she has shed a lot of tears the last few days and getting broken sleep for both of us is not good, she told me the other day she had enough with what has happen to her but I told her there be a lot more pain to come but don't give up as there is a light at the end of the tunnel, but it's so hard to see and hear her pain, my pain went away when they did the big chop to my leg, but she still has both her legs, that is a big + for her, I don't think she would handle what I been through.

She just woken up in a lot of pain, more to do with her reflux than anything else, she had a few health problems long before the accident as well arthritis from her injuries when she was a young girl, a few broken collar bones in her youth and other injuries from falls and now she just turned 65 its all the old injuries are coming to get her, it's so hard for me to watch and now on top of that she has these major injuries from our accident, it's a bit hard for me to handle sometimes and not being able to help her and now me suffering from a bit of a cold doesn't help me.

It's hard telling people what we both are going through and not being able to get around like we use too, having no car is the biggest problem, relying on others , taxi/ubor cost too much, doing shopping is so hard as well without help, this is harder to handle than losing my leg, our freedom has been taken away from both of us but Debra will be driving before I will as I got to prove to others I be able to drive again, I will have no problem with one mod to a automatic car, but having to prove it is another thing, having others decide what I can do and not do, that's the hardest part for me, but I won't let the bastards win, I am strong in will and mind as I seen death door opened when we crashed and getting fixed up on the side of the road while they were saving both our lives, but I slammed that door closed.

There have been many times of having bad days and more so for Debra, I have shed a lot of tears as well over the last few months, nothing wrong in doing that, but talking about it or writing about it helps me, it just get too much for us to handle but that all about recovering from any major injuries, just got to get back on top of it and not let it get me down.

...Debra will be driving before I will as I got to prove to others I be able to drive again, I will have no problem with one mod to a automatic car...
When I broke my right leg and had a "boot" cast, I simply hoisted it up on the transmission hump and drove with my left leg.

Zero training required.

It will be great when your future post says "Debra and me are finally released from all medical and insurance problems and back to normal. I'm heading out with my mates for a ride to Mount Mee with the Norton, the e-start works a treat and shifting has become second nature"

Paul no matter what I will adapt to whatever it takes to drive and ride, using my left leg/foot on the car peddles, should be easy for me as I had no problem riding my bikes and going from right foot to left foot gear changes as well different gear patten, so a car be no different just a simple mod to the accelerator peddle.
Going out riding with the mates again is my major goal and by that time I need time away from Debra, I love her but fu ck I need my break/freedom from her even if it's just for the day or 2 but she knows when I need that escape, it also gives her a break from me.

Had a visit from my youngest daughter Rose, the police officer today, she is so loving her new career as a PO, she is a great driver as she built her own drift car that puts out 650HP and she said today how great it is doing 120 KMPH in a 60 KMPH speed zone with flashing lights she also said she has to be careful that the pasting public don't see the big grin on her face when driving high speeds on a code 2, she also has had a few funny pull overs with bike riders, being a bike rider herself, her police partner is a lot younger than her he is just 22 years old but joined up when he was 18 and they get on and work so well together, the worst part of the job she said was dealing with all the spaced out mef heads.

Do you have stores like Walmart or grocery stores in the USA that will pick your order and have it delivered to you? I order on line and I can have my items delivered to my home. Also Amazon and Building supply places like Home Depot deliver. I use them to save time, gas and walking in stores. During Covid I used them to keep me away from being around people. There may fees to do it, But at my age, I rather not go in stores to shop. And I can shop for the best prices and Know that they have what I need, so I get the goods.

Ash, a lot of the attention here is about you, your leg and your Norton/CNW starter.

Can you please give my best regards to your Debra and let her know she is in our thoughts and we realise how difficult it is for her. I am sure she will keep improving
I have mention Debra a few times and how she is pulling through her ordeal as well, it's been a hard road for her, I lost my right foot/lower leg my major pain went away with in a short time of it been removed, but Debra still has her damaged right leg and with all the skin grafts done on it and a big indent of her knee it has taken a lot to hear in fact 5 months but it's healing good now, no more visit from the nurses or dressings now as well her left foot heel was ripped open but it has also healed up nicely.
Her main problem now is her damage to 9 ribs from the accident, ribs take so long to fully recover shoulder and clasped lung as well from her all deal and now her old injuries from her younger days of broken collar bones, quite a few times from falling down 18 steps and other fall overs, she had bad eye sight when young and not good balance so the last few years the arthritic is creeping right through her body and worst now with new injuries to deal with.
The worst thing for me is I have to watch and hear the pain she is going through and there is not much I can do for her, she take so many pills each day and sometimes I think she rattles, with the arthritic there is not much that can be done medical wise for it but to jam more pills in to her and now she is 65 years old it's only going to get worst as she ages.
The last week we both have been getting broken sleep as the pain she has when she moves in the bed and her waking crying in pain from her joints and there is nothing I can do to help her, but I doing all the hard work around the house, but things are hard on me being in a wheel chair and even with my new leg I can only wear it for short times when I do have it at home, my new leg has been retained by the amputee rehab, not all the time but its now up there this weekend so I don't over use it and do damage to my stump, I have to get use to wearing it and learn to walk on it the right way so they don't trust me to do the right thing at the moment but I have it home next rehab session on Tuesday.
So really that is all that I can tell everyone about Debra and her recovery, the CTP insurer also has a private physio coming to her once a week to give her exercises she has to do and she how she is walking now, but because of all the rain we have had in the last 6 weeks as the physio wants to take her for walks around the block to she how far she can walk on her own, at the moment she not allowed to walk on her own, but she been going out shopping with our daughter and her best friends, so she is doing pretty good now, she just got to be aware in how far she can go and know her limits.
After the accident and me being the person in control of my bike at the time, it's my duty to look after her, although it wasn't our fault I do still have a duty to look after Debra, but it's been a hard task for me, but I am doing my best as I can in my situation and when our oldest daughter comes over to help us out my wife and daughter clash and ague all the time because my daughter does thing differently to Debra, I just tell Debra to let her do it her way and there be no problems and things will get done, but they are both so alike and why they clash, everyone sees it except both Debra and Virginia and the worst thing about it I am stuck in the middle, it get so bad I just tell Virginia to go home and then Debra complains she never here to help, I can't win which ever way they both go, sometimes I wish I could just go, it's been a hard road for me and we still have a long way to go, but we both will get there together, through thick and thin we will get there.

Our two major grocery retailers are Woolworths and Coles but because they are the big 2 their prices are also a lot high in cost, Aldi's are the 3rd major play here but they are all high prices but Coles and Wollies as we call the Woolworths they do home shopping but of course for a price, Aldi's don't deliver at all.
We shop at a smaller outfit (Fresh and Save) who are a lot cheaper on everything the big players charge, they started small but now they are getting big and stocking more groceries, meat, everything to do with food and they are still keeping their prices down so we do most of our food shopping with them and we save a lot of money doing so, the last 3 months I do the shopping in my wheelchair and Virginia pushes the trolly, we got to do it when her partner is not working as my daughter don't drive, he works for Coles and even with his staff discounts I still find Fresh and Save to be a lot cheaper for our groceries and going shopping it gets me out of the house, a bit of freedom and getting the stuff we need, able to see the food, as well Debra goes shopping with her best friend and women love their shopping therapy, also gets her out of the house and doing things with her best friend she grew up with.
As for the 2 big grocery player Coles and Woolie's have been handed big fines lately for underhand trading and over pricing fooling the public with their special and all, Cole got slug with a $150 million fine and Woolies have just been found guilty of doing the same thing but are still waiting for the fine to be handed down, a low price to pay for the huge profits these two retailer make each year, the ACCC are the protector from being ripped off and try to keep them inline, but they keep coming up with new ideas to make more money/profits for their share holders and the average person has no choice but to shop with them, they hold the market.

Ash, I know only too well how difficult it is to be unwell long term. My heart attack and subsequent bypass surgery left me rather debilitated for several months, that was 4 years ago and I feel 95% recovered back to as I was. Good enough to drive my 4ton Motorhome across to France. At the same time my wife’s health has been deteriorating, and since we last went across and toured all of Scandinavia and the Baltic states towards the end of 2024 she has been unable to even get out of the house. So for the past 18 months I have had to do everything she used to, all cooking, washing, ironing, housework, etc.etc. take her to GP surgery, clinics, hospital on an almost endless cycle. It is very difficult to see her unable to walk for more than a few yards before she has to stop unable to breathe. Severe COPD isn’t curable and is very life limiting. When Covid hit, as she is registered as disabled and ‘at risk’ we were given access to a supermarket of our choice and free delivery one day a week. That same supermarket now gets all of our weekly shop , I order online and get the delivery for a cost of £3.50 ($7aus) they are also one of the cheapest supermarket chain and I feel we get excellent service at a low cost. I’m saving having to drive there, traipse around pushing a trolley, it mixing with the great unwashed - superb! She is still in bed, 9am here, and will rise about 11am or so for her breakfast, I’ll have walked the dog by then, she will then sit watching TV and on her iPad until it’s time for a bite of lunch, she will also tuck into a feast of various tablets she has to take on a daily basis. I think she has at least as many as the 14 that I take daily. It’s not pleasant living like this, but at least we see the sunrise every day, for now. If she continues to make a slight improvement we want to escape to France in the Motorhome for a few weeks sometime late in June. I hope we can achieve it. To get around assuming I can get her out into fresh air, she has a large powered wheelchair to enable her a slight amount of mobility. I forgot to mention, at home I had a stairlift installed to get her up and down from the bedrooms and bathroom. Luckily we also have a washroom setup in my garage she can easily access.

...when our oldest daughter comes over to help us out my wife and daughter clash and ague all the time because my daughter does thing differently to Debra... but they are both so alike and why they clash...
"The Story of My Life"

My wyfe and younger daughter are like that.

Gotta love 'em, but hate to hear the back-and-forth. It can be very tiring. I had to learn to "ZIP MY LIP" and swallow hard.
