Ash is in hospital

To all I will never give up riding my beloved Norton coming up to 50 years of owning it from new in June this year, but it has gone through a big change in its early years with me converting it to the Featherbed frame in 1980, Featherbeds and Commandos are in my blood, the great handling of a Featherbed frame and the torque of a hot 850 Commando motor built for the Featherbed frame, might not be as smooth as a Commando but is pretty close with the crank balancing and other work done to my motor, I can see back with my mirror without it vibrating but my last ride my bar end mirror broke off from the mount the mount screw came lose and it whizzed past my mates head who was following me.

I also want to thank Paul (grandpaul) for the kind offer he has given me as well his friends, I am so over whelmed by his offer of getting back on the road with my Norton and with my new leg I be able to change gears the way it is set up and I am already looking where I be able to mount a good battery.

Many thanks to all my friends here, the biker life is a great life and I have been living the dream now for over 52 years and 50 years with my Norton, I have met and become friends with so many who share the same dream, well not so much a dream but a life style as my dreams come true with the good as well the bad but I never give up this road I have taken, friendships, mateships is the Aussie way and helping others in need has always been my way of life but now Debra and myself have been on the other end of needing help, so much support from everyone and from a lot of people we have never met in person, make our recovery so much better as well quicker as well, so much good in people and a big thank you from Debra and myself.

Ashley and Debra

Well Easter break is over another trip up to the hospital amputee rehab tomorrow morning, today I got to call the peg leg makers to see about my new legs, the quote for the legs went to the 3rd party insurance last week so waiting for their approval, just hope they won't take their time to do so as I am keen to learn to walk again sooner than later, when insurance is involved they seem to take forever to come to the party for things, still waiting for the grab rails to be installed and my long grass to be mowed, is now a safety issue with both.
They had a face to face meeting with both Debra and myself last week and said they be getting right onto it, been 5+ weeks now since the rails were measured up for the bathroom and back steps and a mower man was supposed to come last Thursday and was a know show, things are just happening too slowly when our safety is involved, so a few phone calls today to find out why, they knew their client was at fault months ago when she had to go to court and they got the police report from the accident, wasn't our fault at all.

I am starting to get very frustrated and my wife is suffering a lot of pain and slow recovery from her leg injuries, her recovery will take over 12 months to heal but she is marked for life and will never be the same, as for myself it's a complete life change for me and will need help till the day I am no longer here, but everyone involved with our recovery has been great, all the emergency crews who saved our lives to the doctors and nurses who cared for us, the amputee rehab people all been fantastic and of course all our family and friends who has helped us, it's a hard road to follow but we will get on top of this and hopefully start all over again next year, this year is recovery year, we have so many people to be thankful for without help we both be in a bad place, asking for help is hard for me but we both need too, it's a long road to follow but the goodness from others is special to our full recovery and getting back on track to a near normal life again.

A big thank you too all involved and opening up here has helped me to recover more quickly, it's such a strange feeling with a missing lower leg and sometimes it feels like my foot is still there, so hard to explain, I have gone arse up 4 times now thinking my right leg was still there, well 2 time anyway the other 2 times was slipping over or crutches getting caught up in the long grass, first time was in the hospital a day after losing my leg I tried to put it down and took out the young nurse with me, I ended on top of her, she was good looking as well lol, she freacked out more than myself lol.

Well time I made a few phone calls to find out W T F is going on.
