Not quite sure if this argument stacks up, but as i dislike Cows (childhood thing!), i think it's vaguely plausible! :?

Talk about a "no brainer"! Connect one pipe to the cow's "exhaust", and the milking rig to the udder, then as soon as the cow farts, the machine starts milking.
I believe you have just revolutionised the industry!
