I wnat to install a vape unit on a BMW R60/2. It's a 12v conversion + an electronic ignition.

You do realise that this isn't "Jokes & Humour" ??

It is also apparently unwise to smoke a cigarette whilst riding. ;) ;)

looked it up - an ignition system for old bikes - seems @seattle##gs wanted to lead us down the obvious trail.
We've got Nortons - they're not "old"!!

I guess I should have written it differently though the blame is on the manufacturer for choosing a very misleading name.
For BIG JIM...all the early BMWs had 6v alternators and a mag. If you've ever ridden at night with 6V lights you know how awful they are. I once rode around the west side of Lake Tahoe..the Emerald Bay road...at night coming back from a 200 mile trip. Its a road that is a very tight 2 lane road sometimes with 20 mph turns. The traffic is very low at night. It was white knuckles for many miles. My technique was to pull over and wait for a car to go by. Then I chased after him and used his headlights. Did I mention that the /2 brakes are poorer than a Norton's? I arrived home exhausted by all the tension and vowed never to ride at night again. A few years later I found a guy that made 12v conversions and I installed it. As for the mag, the timing mark bounced around quite a bit so I adapted a Boyer to the cases...much better. Further on I installed two 28mm mikunis. I now have probably the fastest /2 around though with terrible brakes. Rode it from Seattle to Coos Bay.
