Thinking of replacing the wiring harness on my 73 850 this winter. Anybody know anyone who sells one that omits everything you don't need with electronic ignition (including all the extraneous UK/Euro wiring)? I'd like to get one that contemplates turn signals, which I may add at some point, but other than that, I'd like the no excess wiring.

Pipe dream? DIY project only (stock harness, wiring diagram, six-pack, wire cutters, and shrink wrap)?

Thanks - B

I had one made for about AUD150 by a nice guy in NZ. I fitted Podtronics and Pazon. Sent Bruce details of both and other mods I wanted and had the harness in about two weeks. Am in the process of fitting it now - perfect! Original colours, bullets where required, spades where required, great fit.
Contact is Bruce Carrad - alison.bruce@clear.net.nz

cheers

Fred Eaton of Old Britts was supposed to have one available by now but I have yet to see it. Why don't you wire the bike yourself? It's really quite easy if you have a wiring diagram and the people on this forum can help you through it. If you need the wiring harness on the bike to look stock and you want to use those unreliable Lucas bullet connectors, then get a cloth covered harness made to order without all the extraneous wires. Otherwise, get yourself some different colors of automotive 16 gauge wire, a solder gun and go for it!!!

Making one yourself is quite easy- and you can put in some nice items to increase the safety/reliability - like relays for lights/horns - I've done two bikes including my 73 850 and if you take your time its actually quite enjoyable!

You can save quite a lot of wiring if you are able to do without a parking light system that operates with the ignition off. Personally I quite like the facility because it helps with re-locating the bike when one stops to relieve oneself down an unlit country lane :) (especially if one falls in a ditch full of stinging nettles).

This should in no way be taken as an endorsement for drinking and riding home from the pub
