Another winter resurrection

Oh, yeah, checked that last night. It's not nearly as close as it appears in the pic.

Put on the graphics, dumped in some fuel and it started first kick. Ran up the road and back about a mile each way to see if there were any leaks or loose parts. And no, that's not an oil spot underneath, just some moisture and leaves from a recent storm. I guess it's done, if there is such a thing.

Mounted the heat shields today. Used some stainless wellnuts, spacers and button head allens along with some stainless hose clamps to attach the shields to the pipes.
I need to do this on my Morini. Do you have a pic that shows this arrangement before attaching the shield?

Sorry, I must have missed this post.

The heat shield attachment is quite simple; Each one is held onto the pipe with two stainless hose clamps. I drilled the clamps to accept some staimless wellnuts and used some stainless button-head allen bolts and some spacers to hold the shields off the pipes a bit. Sorry no pics, but it's really quite simple. Drilling the stainless clamps was a bit of a pain, but the rest was a breeze.

So I changed out the needles and needle jets for new. The needles that came out were not only about a hundredth of an inch smaller in diameter, they were also 1/8" shorter, making the center clip position the equivalent of a new notch below the lowest. And the needle jets were either too big or quite worn out. A drill bit shank that would pass loosely into the old ones wouldn't even start into the new. I took short run up the road as it began to get dark and it idled better and was much less blubbery, accelerating much crisper.

Nice Danno, that is a one of a kind looking ride you built there my friend, salute. Cj

Thank you, CJ. I wanted to do it in metallic or metalflake blue, since I think that is the prettiest color ever painted on a Norton, but there are quite a few like that. I remembered the first one I ever saw and it was gold metalflake. I was about 16 and walked into the workshop area of the old St. Louis Honda with my then brother-in-law. I asked him, "What the hell is a Norton?" having never heard of one before. He said it was "the shop mechanic's bike and he wouldn't own a Honda if you gave it to him". I think the 305 was about the biggest one they made at the time.

. I remember the 305

Going back to the drawing board on my alloy chainguard. I think the 530 O-ring chain may be a bit wide and it rattles noisily when going over pavment irregularities. Rem and it this morning and it's nearly worn through on the inside front. There's also a small semicircular groove worn on the outside rear. Maybe a little cutting out up front and some bending on the rear is in order. Just don't want the front to only be attached on one side.

Pulled the chainguard and went for a 20-mile (or so) ride and it STILL made the rattly noise. When I got home, I pulled the rear wheel and trimmed a bit more out of the rear fender where the chain runs. A short run and SURPRISE! no more rattle! Still need to see if I can make the guard work, but at least I don't have to buy another chain.
