Another recommissioning project for me

I measure 3.595" across the rubbers if that's of any help.

My T160 also has the small* "2.5 gallon" (according to the books but holds approx. 3.7 Imp. gal.) tank.

*(The large T160 tank also holds considerably more than the stated "4.5 gallons" even if Imperial gallons).
Thanks Les, but it’s the tank at fault and not the rubbers. I will get it to fit, I’m confident something has happened to the 2 brackets inside the tunnel but it’ll be the rubbers to take the brunt of my determination.

Are you trimming the circumference or the width of the rubber mounts. I had to trim the width / flat ends.
Yes. Both of each of them. With a hacksaw if necessary 🤬

new ones coming if I screw it up.

This T160 is really pissing me off. Everything is conspiring against us, I think it’s cursed.
While cleaning up under the sump in readiness of replacing it along with new gaskets I cleaned off some stray floor paint that had been applied to the centrestand. Look what I found next - a lovely crack waiting to cause a problem. That‘ll have to wait until I can get it off the ramp and on the sidestand. Then clean, weld, repaint, refit.

Back to the fuel tank saga. I’ve now sanded down and lubed up the rubbers and the tank won’t slide forwards onto them.

So I’ve taken my tank off and test fitted it and it fits a treat. Tried his tank on my frame - not a chance. It is the tank that was removed from the bike, albeit 33 years ago, and then it was painted and stashed away in the dry. Wtf! Has the tunnel mysteriously closed up somehow?

Those rubbers are going to get a serious trim 🤬

I then phoned him and was told he’s sorted a front exhaust system, good news. Oh and he’s ordered new rubbers. I asked who from knowing what the answer would be, and when I asked if he’d added the half dozen parts I’d got waiting in the basket, he said no, I thought you‘d ordered them already. So now I still need to place an order and he’ll have to pay the carriage. Grrr! View attachment 104874View attachment 104875
That's in exactly the same place my one broke
I welded it up and added a stiffener
I usually take centre stands off and chuck them
But my one saved my bacon a few years ago when I snapped the final drive chain and it wrapped itself around the centre stand arm with no other damage

Right, sorted. My way ie using a hacksaw. I measured the width of the 2 rubbers on the frame and compared it to the width of the tunnel - nearly 5mm different. This tank is too narrow. No way of knowing how and where it’s occurred, but there it is.

so a quick session with the hacksaw to prove the point and it fits. Evidence in the pics

I measured in metric, and came up with 88/89mm which is the same.

It’s now all too confusing for an old fella - it fits, time to move on to another problem

And another problem reared its ugly head today. The exhaust, ordered yesterday, arrived first thing this morning - good service, I thought. Until I put it together and unlike the original that has integral clamp fixtures that bolt closed, this one requires clamps to be slid on. Why the feck don’t they wither supply them or offer them at the time of order? Hopeless, where’s the forward thinking and related selling techniques? So now there’s another wait.

while I was in the garage I decided to check and adjust the belt tension on the Commando. Then lost the socket I’d just been using, I searched high and low for it, using the torch in case it had rolled underneath the ramp or the bikes. Nope, nowhere to be seen - until I put the torch down and found it stuck to the magnet base.

I‘m getting too old for the garage ghostie to keep moving stuff, it’s all annoying.

Clamps not bagged up amongst the packaging?

Slowly getting there, my next point to ponder is what to use to glue the reflectors onto the oil cooler?

The original glue has departed for pastures new, and so I was wondering if I can simply use hot melt glue from a gun as it will be rubber onto metal?
