Oh oh. Another earl thread....! No all that applicable to our old shoes though. Interesting to me that it seems those who deal with cold
weather benefit most from O grade oil. Not so much those who live in a hot zone.

My Subaru runs on 0-30 oil, modern engine requirements are different as the tolerances and finishes are different and C2 low ash is needed to preserve the DPF.

Does that make me think of changing the oil I use in my Commando, well no.

By far, I prefer the scent, texture & so much more about Maiden Oil.
Good for whatever is ailing you

Pennzoil euro oils are what is recommended in my Ram Ecodiesel. Being made from natural gas it's supposed to be cleaner but after 5000 miles it looks like any other diesel oil! LOL Maybe we need a Norton Diesel thread!

Here is my two bobs worth, Penrite and STP, my Norton runs so well with it and great for our hot summers.

I started all the trouble so I get to posit a question: when the manufacturer tells you to use a certain oil, is it because engineering told them or because PR told them?
After the last three years which one is more likely?
And NO this oil chat has little to do with an aircooled 50+ year old engine.

Both. The engineers determine the weight of the oil to use for the engine. Marketing decides what brand of oil to suggest based on agreements with whatever oil company(s). That's the reason that one year the car manual may suggest using X brand 10W40 and the next year the manual may suggest using Y brand 10W40.
