Had to be recovered the other day after what I thought was a gearbox seizure. Rear wheel partially locked up on take off from traffic lights. Once I got it on the stand I realised it was the rear drum and having found the fault I could have fixed it on the road. Another lesson learned....I've never used the tab washer in 40k but this time its likely I only hand tightened the bolts (the other one was loose also). I'm doing too much of this lately and thinking its time I got a supervisor to QA my work

Don't feel bad, my bud, a career auto mechanic would leave things loose on his bike, and we'd verbally abuse him as we watched him recover in the breakdown lane... BUT he was only twenty something at the time

Ugh Kieth, I think you should continue to feel pensive about your mechanical competence-oversights on every ride out now, just like me, asking How Lucky Do I Feel, on 1st rebuild start ups and after every maintenance task or minor repair. I have not sheared off anything yet but having various vital fasteners back off to lock up something I tend to nip down a bit more than listed torque as have lost faith in the numerous lock tabs and loctite alone.

I had a rear brake lock up unexpected on Trixie in 1st couple weeks > 1 week before deadly deer *strike*, was in our village square full of all types of cycles, everyone appreciating the Norton, so decided to give a little show with 1 step on start and a short sprint out of square up steep hwy exit a few 100 yd only snicking to 2nd to 50 mph then eased on front and rear brake - which locked and caused Cdo to slide an upright diagonal path to edge of road with smoke trail to a stop, like on purpose stunt. I have since serviced Trixie rear area to seeming perfection but have never gotten it to be able to lock up so easy again so do not know what made it so effective prior as was not adjusted for much or any heating drag.

Yep; 55, and it only gets worse as time marches on. I find myself going around a recently assembled item with the torque wrench two, three, maybe four times, wondering how many fasteners I've missed. Ask my wife about the left-front wheel on her car after I rotated the tires (Why is the wrench on the hood of my car? Should I be able to wiggle this lug nut?)

That's when you jump up, throw your hands over your head as if you just made a touchdown, and holler "I mean't to do that!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hNIX7V21pU

Aw crap PeeWee is such a creep but I am built similar and had similar splash downs rolls outs going like 3 mph right in front of half dozen bikers at a shop all staring intently as the new sound and sight approaching with me beaming on my 1st Combat, Splat. That one finally clicked in after half dozen prior slow smack downs, too fast to know what went wrong, till doing it enough, now my Religion is Never Ever apply brakes to matter any at all UnLess Fully upright fully Inline. I do want to master riding and have had forced on me about every little feature and event of stunting but must face fear and crashing again to see if I actually can on purpose not by accident.
