I am currently running an SS cam in my ‘74 850. I am considering replacing this cam with a stock 850 cam from Andover Norton.

I heard of the alleged issues with PW 3 cams and am wondering if there are any known issues with stock camshaft from Andover.

I just had the SS cam serviced by American Custom Cams if anyone is interested

I know @comnoz may recommend a Web Cam. Is there a reason to go with the bone stock AN cam?
Besides the price (a Web Cam camshaft is double the price of Andover Norton camshaft) there is nothing wrong with a 'bone stock' AN camshaft for road use.

I know personally of split ignition taper on a claimed 06-1084 was not EN32B but AN chilled iron
some people may have success with CI...
But I would not use one even if free...

Oh, boy. Almost afraid to ask, but are we saying that it is better to source an original cam than to buy a replacement?

I agree with Dave, I wouldn't use an iron cam if it was free.

Or maybe more importantly, how do "we" tell the difference if we should want to source a used cam?

Iron cams have DNC cast into them.

I would avoid a used cam unless it came with the followers -in order.
