I have been following the Commando forum on this site for a whils, but now after a gap of around 25 years I have returned to P11 ownership and thought I should say hello. My previous bike was a 1968 P11A, but this one is an earlier single seat, High piper with a magneto.
It is frame number 121588 and the NOC records show it as being dated from 13th April 1967 and shipped out to the Berliner Corporation of Los Angeles. It then went USA to Denmark in 2011 before ending up back in the UK with me.
It's been restored sometime in its lfe and looks really good, it has a few faults and some parts that I am not keen but will sort those over the coming months. I will upload some picturesso feel free to comment.
The rear fender is cleatly not P11, it is far two long and extends inside the seat & oil tank right around to the swinging arm. It has been well done, affords good protection but just does not look right. This brings me to my silly question. On my P11A, i just undid a fastner and slid the seat off rearwards. On this bike, the longer fender masks all the seat fixings so it appears that I will have to strip the fender out or remove the fuel tank and try that way. I have seen the underside of the short seat and can see it has two brackets at the rear that fit onto frame lugs and one at the front that i assume locates in the frame. Currently the seat cannot go forward or back to remove, so my question is ' For you guys with a solo seat P11 how do you remove the seat?

To remove the seat, raise or remove the fuel tank, and push the seat forward.

Okay, many thanks, removed the tank & seat and whomever fitted this fender has done a good job, rather than replace it I may cut it down. Could someone tell me by measuring, how long the fender is from the frame loop behind the seat to the rear edge.

looks nice and clean. has it been refurbished at some point, the paint work looks really deep. where are you in the UK, I ride with several other lads with P11s

Hi mudplugger, nice to hear from you. I am currently living in Bedfordshire but within the next few weeks we are moving to Cornwall. Would be good to meet some fellow owners, I remember from when I had my P11A all those years ago that there used to be a group around Calne in Wiltshire.
As to my bike, yes it has been refurbished at some time, I expect it was done when by the owner in Denmark.

You can also see that it has fitted an anti wet sump valve. I know from my Commando days most owners feel these are not a good idea.
Really nice bike perilouspierre. 8) I hope you got a oil gauge or you could put on a oil pressure idiot light that madass140 supplies. It would be a shame to grenade that rare crankcase. IMHO.
Cheers,
Thomas
