Amal Slide Slop?

Cables new. No resistance opening/closing grip against the slide springs. The slides were snapping shut immediately but rpm dropping back to idle still took a second or so.

i suppose then some of the other comments may be closer to home plate. if the throttle slides drop closed instantly, the the only reason i can see that i might hang up is still getting enough air or fuel to chug a bit longer, so then the previous comments about worn needles and needle jets makes sense.

I had bruce sleeve the carbs on my 72 T120 a LLLOOONNGG time ago and they still work great....on the other hand the single carb on my 68 A65T has never had anything done other than rebuild kit and needle jet a few years back it works good too...IMHO ethanol laced gas clogging pilot jet is amal weak link

Needles and jets are new last season. Tried a pair of hard anodized slides but didn't change much. new sleeved setup does feel quite a bit less front/back slop. Will see once we get her running again in the spring...

You did the right thing. Bruce knows his stuff.

Hi guys.Just thought I would let you know I am still alive and kicking.I have just been doing carb repairs as people hunt me down. After my wife passed 10 years ago now I dropped off the forums and travelled on my bike to get my life back on track.I got a lot of support and understanding from you guys and it really helped me cope.Well all is well again, still riding my norton and still living in woodstock, ont canada. I got lucky and found someone to share my life again and I have moved on . If you need carb repairs, exhaust repairs feel free to contact me.Still old pricing.I did not post this to advertise but to thank you guys for your support.

Welcome back onboard Sir! Hope you can share your Norton knowledge with the collective.
I do recall some old posts I came across about you making rear luggage racks...any chance this it still a thing?
Cheers.

I sold my last one a year ago.I will have to find out new costs for powdercoating, materials etc.I used to make them 10 at a time.I also made side racks to bolt on for givi cases.I will check it out.
Cheers
Bruce

Good to see you back Bruce.
I think it was Pete Turner and I that got your last two sets. The rack and givi carriers worked a treat for me. I did a show and tell in another thread on your carriers. If you make more I would be up for another, but use UNF nuts and bolts for your hardware kit in keeping with Norton fixings. :rolleyes:Keeping with this thread ...your carb re- bores are still working so all smiles here. ;)
Cheers,
Tom

Put me on the list please Bruce.

The exhaust inserts are machined from 6061 aluminum. The head is bored and the sleeve shrunk in and welded.Been doing them for 30 years now. I know there are others who do it and other ways.Cosmetically it has a raised welded area.I use the nuts sent so the fit is not loose.I recommend the bronze norvil inserts from mike at walridge motors .They stay tight and are a nice machined thread.A lot of aftermarket ones are all over the place for size.Usually they both need doing because the other is on its way out also.
