Good to know - now I'm a deluded rookie! BTW, I'd rather be a deluded rookie than dead.Having been hit from behind while stationary I think you are deluded if you think sitting in gear is going to save you. First I knew about it was when the bike started suddenly moving forwards and sideways throwing me off. I had been looking in the mirrors but there was a vehicle turning in front so was having to pay attention to that. Also if there are vehicles in front of you, where are you going to go?
Eddie is correct about the Commando clutch. The adjuster does spin so something will wearing at one or both ends of the pushrod.
In both cars and motorcycles I've taken evasive action to prevent being hit. Not tailgating and leaving room at stops is the key. I do not "look in the mirrors". I keep one eye on the mirror when stopping/stopped. Within 3 minutes of buying my first Triumph 500 I was hit in the rear and that was in very low traffic in town. The driver simply said that she was looking at the light and didn't see me. Today, there's no "low traffic" near me and since that day I've taken "ride defensively" to heart.
So, all you non-deluded, non-rookies are welcome in my book to do whatever makes you feel safe/happy. Time for my second favorite Access Norton tool - unwatch thread.
