Amal Ezy Drain

I think these look interesting too, although not quite tool free or looking particularly quick draining, but do have other pluses. Has anyone been using these?
Bill

well not much to drain if you do as previously suggested, let the engine run till it stops, the ezy drain just gets rid of whats left .
I use them of course. no tools needed to drain. Because the seal for the drain screw is quite thick it allows for good crush hence no need to tighten
with tools other than fingers. i can tigten them by hand and then have trouble undoing them , they wont vibrate or come loose.

That ebay listing is one of Needings, a former poster who did not like being asked for evidence what he was doing with an Amal carb was actually improving anything. An adjustable main jet sounds like a recipe for a holed piston.

Madass, the ones you first posted look great, but I couldn't find them on your website. Are you producing them for sale?
Bill

I'm thinking of buying two of the float level checking adapters from AN (part number 13.1688), and leaving them in situ with the hoses clipped up vertical. That way I can check the float height whenever I want to, and drain the carbs easily simply by unclipping the hoses and put a container under them.

Cheers,

Amal Ezy Drain

Bill, I'm still contemplating whether to do a batch. not sure if there is enough interest in them to pursue, but in the end I will probably
end up doing them.
Don

I think I would give one a try Don. My little BSA single sits for a while between rides sometimes and it does not like running on funky gas so one of these would make it easier to drain the float bowl completely.

I also think that they looked good. Any chance that you will produce them? The fuel here in California is terrible, I have to drain the amals on my Norton constantly.

Yes I will be doing them, they are in the que to be machined, so are the new style fork fork dust seals.
Don

I used to run methanol in my two-stroke racer. Once the white slime clogged the jets and I had a 100 MPH lock-up. So I decided to drill the drain screws of the Mikuni carbs, to make getting the fuel out easier. I discovered the drain screws already had the holes in them for that purpose. It's amazing how much faster a two-stroke will go when it's about to seize.

madass140, those drains look very interesting but I don't see a link to the website ...? I wonder what import duty would be like for the UK.

probably zero. the 3 buyers from the UK who have purchased them in the last 2 hours didnt seem to concerned about import duties, maybe you know something they dont.

Sorry, I don't mean to mess with people's minds! I'm just paranoid about importing things privately from outside Europe, since import duty doubled the price of a pair of Viking peashooters from New Zealand! That really hurt! You buy something, and then the delivery driver tells you that you have to cough up the same again, it's no fun. I'm guessing it wouldn't hurt too much with your drains, but as I said I don't see a link to your website, so I have no idea of a price ...?

Later: D'oh – penny drops, you mean For Sale via Access Norton, sorry again, I had no idea it existed and just found it. Cheers!

Later still: Yeah that looks like a very fair price, but import duty could make it quite dear – I've no intention of either pissing you off or suggesting how you might run your business, but buying worldwide via eBay seems to carry zero chance of being stung by the UK government. I've bought lots of stuff worldwide that way, but for all I know you don't want to go there ... Cheers.

Some great responses there, thank you! Very useful information. I bought the silencers from New Zealand in 2004, and have lived in fear ever since – obviously the world's moved on in the meantime, what with that Internet thingy ...! :D

At times like this I begin to feel increasingly stoopid ... That eBay item isn't showing for me in a worldwide search, looking for variations on 'ezy drain amal carburettor' only finds ... other stuff. Given those stated import duty rates I think I'll just buy direct from you when I'm ready, madass140 – I'll PM you then, right ...? Cheers.
