With a two wire alternator on my MK III, what reading should I get when I connect one lead thru the volt meter to ground?
Thanks

Voltmeter to ground should read zero to either of the alternator leads. The alternator puts out AC between the 2 wires. Usually this voltage is specified across a 1 ohm load resistor. (Or a headlight bulb will work too.)

I'm not looking at a schematic, but don't you mean the meter should read (infinity)? If you have a reading of zero to ground the alternator is shorted to ground.

Well...he did ask what the reading should be on a "volt" meter.
