Been wanting a "tripmeter" for my Norton for a long, long time. (I like to see what MPG I get each fillup) None of the 8 Nortons I've owned had trip meters, so I had to carry a little notebook with last fillup mileage ... and usually forgot the notebook. :( Been watchin' ebay over the years, and the Norton speedos (smiths instrument with the reset knob coming out the bottom) always seem to go for way more money than I'm willing to spend. Triumph ones with the knob coming out the side, seem to be much more plentiful. And, cheap repos of them are very reasonable and work pretty good. Used them on a couple Triumphs and was happy with them. Got the PAIR shown on sale from Dennis at northerneagle.ca for about $130. Using Triumph rubbercups and brackets, bolted right on the Norton. Only issue is I think I need much shorter "spacers" (EMT nuts for now), as the cables are JUST BARELY long enough. I think it works a treat ... comments ???

I thought all Interstates came with trip meters.

I believe you are correct ! All my Nortons have been Roadsters though ... or HI Riders. I bought the Interstate tank for my avatar 750 off fleabay a few years ago. And the increased range is fantastic !!!

you could add a bicycle speedo, they have multiple trip meters in some cases and Sigmas will work at motorcycle speeds (many brands will not), also max speed, average speed, etc.. FWIW I recently installed a Garmin bicycle GPS on my bike, works well and rides can be downloaded and viewed on the web afterwards...it has a rechargeable battery but it would be easy to wire it to the bike if it were permanently installed (I use mine on my bicycles too). No stock tripmeter on my Interstate but no telling how it was originally equipped.

When I saw the Topic heading, I thought you meant swapping the speedo & tacho over left-to-right...are they on different sides on the 850 Mk 3, like the gear lever/brake/front brake?
