I met with a guy tonight who is putting together a package for Norton owners to basically have their alloy tanks wrapped in a clear coat ultra thin plastic. It is almost invisible to the eye but stops the tank getting scratched. In fact if the covering gets marked (by zips buttons etc) all you have to do is pour hot water over it and it reforms without the need to have it re coated. I am definitely interest and I will have some idea of prices etc as of tomorrow. Anyone else interested?

I'm interested. I have the same film on the Shelby mustang. The brand I have is Xpel. It's basically a self healing paint protection film and as you said heals itself with warm/hot water. It also protects against rocks, bugs, chips etc. I have a polished aluminum tank on my Commando I just installed and I am very careful and make sure I do not rub against it. I use a light coat of mothers polish and make sure I clean the bike/tank before and after each ride. The only hard part about the film is getting it to lay down tight against the lettering. I have custom lettering and stripe on my tank. I'm in if he offers this. They also make crystal clear and a matte finish. Since I have a Naked Dominator coming soon with the brushed tank I'd also be interested in matte finish if he offers it.

I am interested as well.
I wonder if with the brushed look the problem of spoiling the tank is less problematic.

What do you mean by "spoiling"?
Although my polished tank is new, I use the mothers aluminum polish and it's looks great.

Okay "spoil" is a hard word, I just meant that it gets very easily scratched and I am too lazy to polish it so frequently. May be with the brushed look this would be less...

I've got a wee tub also, may use it in the winter huddled by the fireside surrounded by grubby old parts.

Happy days!
