See the bikes here then vote: http://jerrydoe.com/mostImproved2012/
(must login or register to vote)

This year we are having our most improved contest for classic bikes (next year will probably be ONLY Norton Commando's again). For those who are not familiar with the annual contest: Forum members who have completed their rebuild during 2012 send me before and after photos along with their rebuild story. I publish everything and we vote. Members can send money which I hold for the winner. There are 11 bikes entered. If you sent your bike and it is not there let me know ASAP. It is too late to send entries for the contest as voting has started and the voting will be open until Jan 31st 2013. You have one vote and it is ok to change the vote.

To send money use this link: http://www.accessnorton.com/store/accessnorton-featured/most-improved-2012-donations.html

For the winner:
Jerry Doe will donate $40 and an access norton T shirt.
Jean Des Rosiers - $20
James Olson - $20

Re: *Vote Now* Most Improved Classic Bike 2012

I voted for nicholas because it looked like the most dramatic improvement before/after to me... Honorable mention to joe's fastback. Good work everyone

Re: *Vote Now* Most Improved Classic Bike 2012

Looks like YELLOW is a winning color this year  I also voted for a yellow bike, Ralph's well done PR lookalike. For me it was a close race between Ralph's bike and Alistair's Norton-BSA hybrid. The other bikes are all up there too, but personal preferences take over in the voting process.

A good new year to all.

Jean

And the winner is: Alistair Wilson
(Alistair I will PM you)

Alistair or Jerry, PM me the address to mail a copy of my book to.

Congrats on a very successful contest!

Thank you to the forum for voting for my bike, it was a great deal of fun building this hybrid special. Central Canada is a wonderful place for these machines, all the traffic is on the freeways leaving the secondary roads empty of cars and there is destinations galore in this part of the world. I brought my nephew out from the west coast a couple of years back and we rode all over including three days in Moskoka. He description of the place was “magic”

So how do I give back to the forum for this honour?

I worked the motorcycling supershow last month and out of the forty thousand or so attendees not one young person came around the booth while I was there. Not one. Just a bunch of us greybeards came and interacted with the display. I remember the time when I used to take a bus across town just to ogle the new Norton racer in the window. Not now, the younger digital generation does not seem to have as much interest in the classic bikes.

What to do?

I have built bikes for guys over the years but they eventually gave up on motorcycling, marriage, jobs, travel, etc. It takes a special kind of person to enthusiastically put in 10,000 dollars and 10,000 hours to partake in the classic motorcycling scene.

I am no spring chicken and I worry that my fleet of kinetic art will be tossed to the winds when I am gone.

The picture below is a seventeen year old kid lusting after the Norton special, and there is another four just like him.

This year I am going to insure two bikes and try and interest these young guys in benefits of classic bikes. Let me re phrase that. I am going to try and infect these guys with classic motorcycling disease.

My gift to the forum – new blood.

Alistair Wilson / AKA Norsa1 is the WINNER !!
