I'm tired of ruining the stock air filters and bought a similar brand to the K&M. I can see no way of mounting it without removing the oil tank. Am I correct? What does it entail to remove the tank?

Are you the guy that I answered , guessing you were asking ‘bout oil filter ,haha! , sorry ! .... when you refer to air filter similar to K&N , I will assume you have checked them out and are comfortable with their filtering performance , K&N air filters cost more than others for a reason , if you believe what is written about their performance once dirty .... good luck !! , I use the UNI-sock type 2-layer foam filter as it is pliable and fits where you want it too ...

I can remove my k&n filter without removing anything other than the left side cover. It does go in and come out only one way though. One oil line is close to impeding removal.
