Hi
I am about to fit my new premiers and have seen a thread about reducing the size of the air filter box, have picked up a narrower filter and propose trimming mesh to fit, seems I just need shorter bolts, just want make it easier to get at filter as it's a bugger with carbs on, am I good to go on this.

Arbitrarily reducing the size (filter area) could reduce power at full load. Hard to tell without either: Dyno testing or doing plug chop tests to see if the mixture becomes too rich compared to using the standard filter with the same jetting.

I’m lost. Why would you need to make the air box narrower to accommodate Premiers? Assuming the Premiers are replacing Amal MkI.

I presume to be similar to this - https://www.rgmnorton.co.uk/buy/com...-air-filter-assembly-stainless-steel_3696.htm

Gives a bit more room to makes carbs easier to fiddle with.
Yes, that's the RGM slim line filter. Only issue with it is it makes someone like myself beholden to buying their paper filter and paying mucho-grande for shipping to North America. That's what the recent thread on this discussed, alternatives to make the hamcan slimmer DIY style.

Here's that thread:
