I am in dire need of a 1" thick K&N pancake filter for a 36mm Mikuni. I used an older style battery tray on my MKIII and the 2" thick one I have is too thick. Sudco has nothing, Rocky Point and CNW only have them for 34mm carbs and MAP is a bust as well. I actually can not even find any info on the K&N site that points me in the right direction. K&N part # RCO850 is the one I have that is too thick at 2". I could call K&N to see if they will make a one-off but the price might scare me. I'd hate to have to buy a 34mm carb just to get this bike going but I will if I have to.

This is the only part I need to finish my MKIII off. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Them thar 36mm miks like to suck air. I dare say a 1" pancake is gonna hinder yer perfomance and I don't think your going to find one.
When you say have an old style battery tray are you saying that you have retained the pan that hold the original air cleaner? If not, their are many options for good air flow. I use the Oval taper RU-3780.
Lots of filter surface. http://www.knfilters.com/search/product ... od=RU-3780
I got a pretty good turn aroung from K&N directly.

If you still have that big plate back there, maybe it's time to loose it.
Don't give up on that 36, your going to love.
P.S. 300 Main / Center Needle position/ pilot to suit your personal idle.

Hi Coco,
Have you considered using the foam sock type filter (IE "Unifilter"). Actually much cheaper than than the K&N filters, and oiled foam provides exceptional filtering and easy servicing. I am presently running one that is 6 inches long and extends into the battery box somewhat.

Pelican: Cool link and thanks for that. I certainly would not hurt to try that out.

pvisseriii: I used a battey tray from an old MKII and the battery is positioned front to back rather than in sideways like the MKIII battery tray. The filter I bought fit when I had the original MKIII tray in there. The filter now hits the front of the battery tray since I swapped them out. The original air cleaner bits are long gone.

geo46er: I'll look into those.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
