Got my 74 Roadster sans stock aircleaner. Now have one in hand,
could someone post a pix of just how it is secured to the bike?
Thanks.

Assuming you have a MkII not a MkIIa. This is a "ham can" type air filter. The backing plate (black painted) has two holes in the lower portion - 1/4" NF bolts to threaded holes in the battery tray. There is a bracket at the top of the backing plate that extends forward. At the end of that is a hole that connects to the frame gusset - end of the large back bone tube. This is a 1/4" bolt, nut, washer and a 1/4" (roughly) spacer. Bracket goes forward of the gusset with spacer between held together with the bolt, washer, nut.

Yes, MkII not IIa. The rear plate goes against the frame with
no spacer between frame and plate? Or is plate under bolt heads
on the inboard side of the plate, the interior or the cleaner so to speak.
The hole in the frame plate that is under the aft portion of the spine
tube seems bigger than the hole in the bracket attached to the
rear filter plate, but this is indeed where the filter plate bracket
bolt passes?
Thx.

Swearing. Lot's of swearing. And, of course, the ritual blood letting procedure.

Yeah I looked there straight away. Just figured a pix would
be the thing. As has been often said here "we like pictures".
Thx again.

What is the PROPER fitting of the top tab? As I purchased the bike, it was down under the frame like this:

Or on top like this:

LOL, "iffy" like IF the sheet metal will seal with two bolts holding it together? The gaps worry ya?

Addition of one or two through bolts top and bottom might
assist.
....but of course then it wouldnt be genuine...gasp...sniff...

Put a smear of grease on the mating surfaces of the filter element. It will seal perfectly with no worries re gaps. The biggest problem is caused by overtightening the two bolts which then warps the front plate. If the plate is warped, remove and straighten. Then after smearing some grease on the filter, put a dab of blue loctite on the bolts and tighten them "Just snug" by using a 1/4" drive socket in your hand (no handle). No leaks/no warps. Do it again in a year or two.
