I know the shorter strip ' 926 goes on the inside of the air cleaner back plate but was wondering where the longer locking strip goes, any ideas..

i was under the assumption there was only one locking strip, or tab washer (060926) used on the pre-Mk2a configuration. not sure what the actual purpose is, but it seems to be some sort of spacer between the rear air cleaner housing and the battery tray. BTW, i'm assuming the tab washer actually goes between the air cleaner and battery tray. by no means, an expert here, but I can't find an application for a "925" part - ????

your reference parts drawing - what is the application? year, 750/850, Mk1, Mk1a, Mk2, Mk2a, ??? I don't have the 061361 spacer, or the longer "925" locking strip. after seeing your reference, i'm thinking my air cleaner assembly is not configured correctly. can you provide more detail? thanks....

also, i'm seeing 3X bolts and washers, but only two holes in the air cleaner plate - now i'm confused - ???????

probably should have asked the original poster what year before posting anything. thinking my "926" part is in the wrong location.

That's the '71 AN drawing but 060925 is listed in the parts books from '68 - '71, however, I think 060925 might have been deleted before '71.

"x3 bolts" suggests both plates share a bolt. I believe the long plate could perhaps have been fitted externally and the reason why there's no third hole in the backplate.

LAB - question - the "926" part -- on a Mk2 configuration, i'm seeing the part listed as a "lock" strip, and as a "tab" washer - i'm now thinking the 926 part goes inside the air clean housing and the ends or tab ends are bent over and provides a locking mechanism for the two bolts, keeping them from coming un-done inside the air cleaner, thus eliminating any means of those bolts working their way through the carbs and into the engine. the locking mechanism is similar to the bolts and locking tab used to secure the oil filter housing mount - ??? when I assembled my air cleaner, all the parts were in a box, and I had no indocation on how things went together.

Yes.

didn't mean to highjack the thread, so back to fireflake's original question - " where the longer locking strip goes?"

The longer strip and the thick spacer are missing from the 72 onwards AN diagrams of the carbs and ham cam air filter assembly. They only appear on the 71 interim 70 and the 68/70 (and then only in the non Roadster and S) AN diagrams. I think that confirms LAB's suggestion the longer strip hung on in the parts lists after it was dropped from fitment.

Which suggests pre-'71 (or 20M3) Fastback?

The original 060815 Fastback backplate apparently had an additional hole which I think is a third battery carrier attachment.

The 06.0815 backplate sold by AN and others is the later version (without the 2CP condenser pack brackets).

No idea on the officially correct version but I've just been fiddling with the thinner ham can filter on mine today. Over-filled the oil and wanted to check I hadn't drowned the filter. I noticed that the welded on bracket for the long retaining screw is catching on the frame on the left hand side.

I'm planning to fit a thicker spacer at the bottom to give it clearance.

Short version - I'd do what it takes to make sure things fit where they should with no catching. Use the parts books as a guide.
