Hi All-

Thanks for all the comments regarding the twin Premier vs single Mikuni discussion. I am now leaning towards purchasing twin Premiers for my MKIII rebuild.

I have a line on a stock MKIII air cleaner box, but the cost is making my eyes water. Due to a previous bad experience with K&N products, I will not be purchasing those air filters.

My preference is the ham-can air cleaner as I have fitted to my ‘74 MKII. Is it possible to retro-fit that unit onto the MKIII given battery size, etc? Anyone actually do it!?

If that approach is problematic, what other alternatives make sense for the MKIII?

I always appreciate the feedback..!

Tom

I like the stock MK 111 plastic box. Rare now as many tossed them over the years never to go back. Never toss out anything .

I have just removed the air box from my Mk3 and fitted a ham can yesterday! It fits fine although it is very close to the starter. Probably only about 1mm clearance. I have the uprated starter though so may or may not be an issue with the standard starter. Only one of the lower mounting holes lines up but I don't see a problem with that. I'd post a picture but haven't got a clue how to do it. If you message me your email or mobile number I could send you some pics.

Yes - we first had the Amal spin-on filters (they are K&N style) on the MK3 when we junked Darth Vader's helmet.

We didn't like the look though, so immediatly planned on changing it.

We fitted a pre-MK3 battery tray and used the RGM slimmed down ham can filter.

We run a @comnoz sump plug breather, so the hose goes up to the oil tank, bigger battery cables and a larger battery - the slimmer filter just gives you the extra bit of wiggle room!

I think it turned out great - and looks "factory enough" to all but the most discerning of the rivet counters!
